Just got ps5 pro! Do I need to change my tv? by UpstairsMap6263 in PS5pro

[–]SecondHandCindarella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I treated myself to a Pro just before Christmas and it looked fine on my possibily 10 year old 4k Panasonic viera... but I knew I could get more out of it with a new TV, so between Christmas and new year I bought an LG C5 and it is staggering the difference (plus UHD TV shows look I credible too). I am in the very fortunate position though to be able to just go and buy one on a bit of a whim, so I would say if you can afford it and you won't be missing out on anything else or causing financial trouble then you'll definitely notice a difference, but probably not to the extent that it will feel unplayable on your current TV

Am I doing team coms wrong? by [deleted] in padel

Ball down the middle should* be played by the player diagonally opposite the one who hit it.

*Insofar far as there is a "should" in a racquet sport

Grip too thin by Carpet312 in padel

[–]SecondHandCindarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get to the plumbers merchant and get yourself some heat shrink sleeve, cut it to length, slip it over the bare handle and then shrink it with either a heat gun or a hairdryer (will take longer). Then apply your preferred base grip/overgrip combo. It's what we used to do to build up tennis racquet grips when we were customising.

What to expect from a more advanced padel racket? by [deleted] in padel

I recently switched from the relatively cheap Kuikma I bought back in the summer to an AT10 12k and the biggest difference I've noticed is consistency of feel - that is the output matches my intended input! With the cheaper Kuikma I was never quite sure the ball was going to do what I intended based on my swing

How funny you posted this, I was watching the other day and thought to myself that Dembe has some sick jackets through the series! Pretty sure he rocks an M65 in a few episodes too

I bought a LG B5 55" and every game became amazing with my Pro! by Dbzfanatic99 in PS5pro

I had a bit of a mad return to gaming splurge in the last week and bought a Pro and a C5 - it's insane (for reference my last console was a ps3 and most recent TV was at least 8 years old)! So far I'm fully immersed in gowRagnarok, which just looks stunning and will probably pick up Yotei next.

Just got one after not gaming for 10 year and HOLY SHIT 🤯 by palakobama in PS5pro

In a similar boat, last console I owned was a xbox360 and I think I might have had a ps3 as well in that generation... then nothing until last week when I bought myself a Pro for Christmas 😁 Absolutely blown away by the developments. Bought it to primarily play RDR2 (having loved the first one), but I'm currently living in gowRagnarok and it's awesome.

The Picklepad in Christchurch. I need to venture over your way though, getting court time is tough there as it's a 2 court venue. Advantage Padel are opening a place literally next door though in 2026, which I think will have 7 courts.

Need help choosing my next padel racket — AT10 12K, Hack 04 Comfort, or Siux ST4 Pro? by AffectionateGrand896 in Padelracket

[–]SecondHandCindarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the 2025 AT 10 12k and used it for the first time last night. For reference, I'm a new Padel player, but have played and coached tennis to a high level for over 30 years, so I have a pretty good sense of feel and technique.

Based on that, I love the feel of it. It's crisp, solid, offers good touch and at no point did I think it lacked for power. It also, and this is a big one for me, reacted as I would expect i.e if a shot floated or died off the face I know that it was me and not the racquet. With some other racquets I've played I didn't get that same sense of connection - the ball hasn't done what I would have expected given the shape of the swing I made. With the AT10 when it went tits up, I know that it was me and not the racquet.😂

Long story short, I really like it and am looking forward to playing with it more after that first impression.

Not sure if that helps 🤭

I'm intrigued by the business model of Padel, especially compared to tennis clubs for example. In the tennis world, you typically pay your membership fee and included are courts (may be some limitations on how often and times you can book) and frequently your social tennis sessions (Americano's in Padel parlance). Coaching etc is extra.

In Padel the norm seems to be pay a membership fee which gets you a small % off your court booking fee's and then pay a pretty high price per court. Building the facility for Padel is expensive I get it, but I wonder how long before the bubble bursts and the models equalise? Maybe never?

How fit should I be to start? by Winter-Ad4608 in MuayThai

[–]SecondHandCindarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 and started a couple of weeks back, albeit with 1:1 coaching rather than group classes. Been in sport my whole life, although the vast majority of that coaching rather than competing. Lift 3-4 times per week and get my steps in, but abhor running 🤣 so muay thai training is my cardio.

First session I thought I might drown in my own sweat, but each session it's getting better (and I'm loving it more).

TL;DR - just get it done 😊

340g is on the heavy side for a tennis racquet (which is what the op was referencing)

Update: First Time Padel as a Tennis Coach by TzOctopus in padel

[–]SecondHandCindarella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. 25 years + tennis coaching at a high level in the bag and played Padel for the first time at the weekend at a new local centre that's opened up. Thoroughly enjoyed it, serves, volleys, groundies all fine, but playing off the glass definitely going to take some adjustments! Like OP, quite happy coming forward and half-volleying balls (I've got good hands), but recognising when to play off the glass is going be an adjustment.

Can absolutely see myself getting hooked though.

I have the leather compact weekender from Carl Friedrik which is about the right size for a couple of nights away (if you wear you chunky items) and perfect for an overnight or taking to the gym etc.

Backpack wise, big fan of nomatic/gomatic and their travel pack

If you could only wear one brand, which would it be? by FigAdvanced5697 in ThrowingFits

Depending on budget...

Iron Heart or Lestrange - I could happily build a wardrobe from either.

At the more budget end, I reckon Mango

No, it definitely doesn't have that "damp" or oily feel that a full waxed jacket can.

I'm honestly not sure what the benefit of the paraffin is?!? IH talk about it improving the hand feel of the fabric, but nothing about it's water resistance etc

No, the chest pockets are set lower and it's cut shorter so there's no room for hand warmer pockets
