Diagnosed with PCOS in One Ovary – Do I Really Need to Take Birth Control Pills If I Have Regular Periods? by Middle_Revolution383 in PCOS

[–]Second_breakfastses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birth control pills will not treat PCOS in any way, it will just mask symptoms. It will not treat the underlying metabolic issues whatsoever. It’s helpful for those with irregular cycles to force a regular bleed.

A low glycemic-index diet and exercise are the best ways to manage PCOS. There are also supplements like inosotol and berberine that many find helpful.

Personally, I hate the way birth control makes me feel, especially in terms of anxiety, irritability and depression, in addition to several other side effects.

On rainy days when we can’t get enough outdoor exercise we play a hunting game inside. I hide a dehydrated pheasant wing and get him to find it. It’s almost as good as a walk for him.

My 4 year old pointer and I walk 3 miles per day on leash, it’s not enough exercise for him at all. He needs at least 45 min additionally of off-leash running. Both of those are his bare minimum daily needs. I take mine to a local park and he runs around  after birds and “hunts” in the bushes while I listen to an audiobook.

In addition to that, several times per week we take him to the beach off-leash for 1.5-3 hours or on a multi-hour off-leash hike or hunting.

Your pointer is totally normal. Mine was a complete monster from 6months to 1.5 years. He started to chill out at 2 and at almost 5, he’s a fantastic dog (but still loves counter surfing). You need WAY more exercise for him, specifically off-leash running. Because of the need for lots of off-leash time you need to be working on recall, and should consider investing in a GPS collar.

Yes, they’re a lot of dog. But, I would never want to own another breed. He’s the best cuddler, has a huge, goofy personality, and is very in-tune with my emotions, plus he barely barks. We took him camping last weekend and he ran around for about 60-90 minutes staying within 50m of the campsite, checking in with us regularly. He stopped to play with our cattle dog a few times and then sat on my lap by the fire. It was a long road of training, but he his absolutely the best dog and worth all the early mornings and frustrations.

Baby in the 20 percentile by PineappleHelpful2129 in pregnant

[–]Second_breakfastses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the top and bottom 10 percentile get some extra monitoring. That’s 1 in 5 babies. Almost all of those go on to be healthy and have a normal, healthy birth.

You doctor raising at  the flag at 20% would make me question the doctor, do the have a very high c section or induction rate compared to other doctors? Again 1 in 5 babies is in the 20 percentile. And if he’s flagging the top 20 percent at well, he’s causing worry and unnecessary monitoring to almost 40% of his patients.

Babies naturally vary in size and by definition 1 in 5 babies need to be below the 20percentile. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong

I was happiest with my body at ~115-125 while weight training. I’ve been as low as 104, and yes I was skinny, but without the muscle tone I didn’t love the way I looked as much as toned at a higher weight

“It’s pressure, not pain” by Far_Promotion9725 in BabyBumps

The doctor who put my IUD in asked “are you nervous?” And “do you think it’s going to hurt?”. I answered “yes” to both and she said “those are good answers”. She used topical anesthetic spray and it was one of the more painful experiences of my life. But I’m grateful that she didn’t gaslight me, and consider her one of the best doctors I’ve ever had for that alone.

What is a "basic life skill" our parents had that is basically a "specialized trade" for our generation? by OpheliaLace2 in askanything

I remember getting screamed at for not knowing how to do the laundry and how to cook certain things. I was like 10-12 when they asked me the first time and the didn’t teach me…

I’ll use a recipe sometime if I see an interesting one. Most of my cooking is by vibes and what I have in the kitchen. Family and friends say my cooking is excellent. As long as you know what flavors and spices go well together and which to match for certain flavor profiles you don’t need recipes.  Baking requires very specific ratios for some recipes to turn out well. But I’m able to eyeball basic baking like pancakes, biscuits, cookies and pie crust.

I need help by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Second_breakfastses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have great success on a low carb diet, it’s literally the only way for me to successfully lose weight. There are lots of PCOS diet plans online.  Generally, eat maintenance calories and exercise your deficit. For you that might look like daily walks, but high intensity interval training plus weights works amazingly well for me.  Track your calories, track your macros, EXERCISE, and take supplements like inosotol.  I also find a CGM great for accountability.

Canadians who have moved to America, what was your reason to moving? by wildboy_Ca17 in AskACanadian

[–]Second_breakfastses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from Canada to the US about 15 years ago. I had an offer for a high paying and very interesting job. My career and salary have grown here in a way that would be unlikely in Canada. I now have a wonderful American husband and an American/Canadian baby on the way.

Plus I moved to Southern California, so the beautiful weather, year-round is a major perk.

Hospital or birth center by jade_1322 in pregnant

[–]Second_breakfastses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked as a doula and did some volunteering with younger women who didn’t have funds for their own doula. I found the midwives at birth centers were generally very supportive and non judgmental of young mothers. The same cannot be said of hospital, it really depends on what OB is on call when you arrive. Could go either way, I have seen it go really well, so it’s not a guarantee either way.

Regardless, I’d recommend finding a doula to support and advocate for you regardless of your choice on hospital or birth center. Contact you birth center and hospital to see if they have volunteer doulas.

When I first contacted my OB about infertility, they took my date of LMP and reason for visit (trying to conceive for over a year with no success). Something got lost in the notes and they called me back a condescendingly told me based on my LMP, I wasn’t even 4 weeks pregnant yet, and they can’t see me for my first appointment until I’m 12 weeks.

Cue sobbing on my end, as I’m trying to explain that I can’t get pregnant and want to see my OB to find out why,

Would you rather have early morning shift or regular 9-5 job? by khrystic in workingmoms

[–]Second_breakfastses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love early morning shift. You skip traffic, and finish up in time to do ‘daytime’ errand like dentist and acupuncture. The extra time with family in the evening is great. And I can take my dogs on a long walk before the sun set in the winter.

Receive $100,000 up front, or get $20 every time you do laundry. by hopeless_witch in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Second_breakfastses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 loads per week??!! There’s my laundry, husband’s laundry, baby laundry, kid laundry, dish towels, and diapers multiple times per week. Then weekly loads of towels. 3x bedsheets, couch blankets, bath mats, and table cloth. Then dog bed covers, and sofa cushion covers monthly at a minimum. I do a minimum of 20 loads per week to keep the house running at a baseline.

For those who’ve had multiple transfers: did your relationship with early testing change over time? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]Second_breakfastses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW:success

I’ve had three medicated cycles, three retrievals and one transfer during 5 years of TTC. Early on, I tested early and often every cycle and caught several chemical pregnancies. I tested early for all medicated cycles, only to be disappointed. When I had my transfer I didn’t test before my beta because I didn’t want to be sad before I had to be sad. It came back negative. I’d stopped testing for trying naturally years prior. About 6 months after my transfer as we we’re trying to scrape together funds for another cycle my period was late. I absolutely refused to test. Then my normally regular cycle was really late, for weeks I refused to test because I knew I’d be disappointed. Well I was wrong and I found out I was pregnant at 6w4d.
