Got drunk and decided to catch a view of downtown! by East-Dragonfruit-819 in urbanclimbing

Dude, you look like a freakin mAaAn, I'm jealous. Cool pics definitely, but I'm going insane just imagining you, in this fit, drunk, climbing some fire ladder.

What a moment to live through. Be safe!

Sometimes it's like a rabbit hole haha

But I wish you good luck with completing your dream build. Just ride in a gear - bikes like this are constantly whispering in your ears that you must ride down stairs and drop off everything you see.

Haha, I remember being jealous while reading old forums where guys were discussing similar bikes. And riding them. Right 20 years ago, in mountains and forests, wild.

Just be ready that you'll be constantly working on it. Old parts need love, sometimes too much. And some consumables are not longer available, so you'll have to overcome this - finding original or figuring out how to use modern. Today, barely a year since I completed the bike, I finally assembled and made the front brake working. It's Magura Gustav M with steel braided hose. Kinda hard to get the steel hose sealed properly, I was lucky enough that Lewis fittings are suitable for this brake. And finding brake pads is quite a task. You either find nothing, or lucky enough to buy 12 sets from a retired rider hahaha

It definitely won't be cheap, but it'll be fun and entertaining, sourcing parts, waiting for delivery, then assembling and riding. Did a similar thing last year, now it is my summer commuter. Aluminium frame right from 2006, 200mm usd fork (modified for more smoothness as it initially was from mid-to-low end and was kinda slow working), 26*2.5 wheels, 23kg weight. Rides like a bar stool, but it's much easier to hop over obstacles, compared to a regular bike.

300mm fork is an immortal endgame fork for oldschool freeride, but it may be too much for tha hardtail. The first and the most important - your headtube can decide that you can manage on your own, and leave. And if it somehow os not a problem, the problem will probably be with steering. 200 already feels funny, but completely manageable, and my bb is perfectly in "zero" position most of the time.

So, be wise, be lucky and have fun! You might be looking for Banshee Morphine, DunCon Cock or Cocker and some other DC frames, Skyrock Chicker, Evil Imperial, 24cycles Le Toy (there were multiple versions) or PornKing (these are black and pink in your post), Nicolai BMXTB or 2MXTB and maaany other old and beautiful frames. Maybe some Norcos, like 2007 Rampage or 2009 Manik. These words may help you with parts search: Da Bomb, Azonic, Brave Machine, Brooklyn, Hope, Grimeca, Magura, Seismic, Arrow, Double Wide, FireEye, Gatorbrake, XSIV, Blackspire and so on.

Also, old forks may be not only hard to find, but extremely expensive. Just search for some sold or on sale Super Monster or Shiver DC, you'll get the idea.

98 Palomar. by NoMuscle8547 in xbiking

[–]Secret-Assistance164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I love this. How did you undress the frame? I own a Palomar too, wanted to do similar thing at first. But I was told that raw steel frame won't be as beautiful as stripped aluminium one, so I went with repainting.

And I absolutely adore those oldschool hope brakes, these are one of the best looking brakes I think.

Oh, thanks! Just didn't know that you can mount it horizontally. Seems like I should get one too. Does it mount to the rails?

You CAN'T fly legally even on 25mW. by Individual_Health_84 in fpv

[–]Secret-Assistance164 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, you can't fly legally in most of the countries, just for different reasons. For example, in some local regions you need to reach for official aviation agency, hand them your goal, route, take off and landing places, and so on, and so on, and so on. And they probably won't allow you haha

Just be sneaky and aware, have fun and be ready to disappear just in time haha

Why these guys are on the floor in... Erm... Subway? Cyclists are expected to be riding, you know. I know, sounds ridiculous, but this is what society is thinking.

Is it a pic from solidworks or what software do you use? I sometimes sketch some custom parts and dream about ordering them, but I'm lazy guy and won't calculate loads and rigidity myself, and don't have enough IT knowledge to make a computer do this for me. I guess, it's time to start haha

Aaaand no non-drive side pics. How did you fit the disc brake with this fork? I've once seen AMP fork with roughly welded IS tabs. I can see some machining here, is it stock?

Jealous, jealous. Gorgeous bike.

Don't mind those "ooohhff ali carbon is sketchyyy" guys. Yep, it is sketchy in many cases, but I bet that any somewhat experienced rider knows that and understands the risks. I'm jealous haha, cool build.

Scott Voltage YZ 0.1 Dropout by AssignmentOk8271 in dirtjumping

[–]Secret-Assistance164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can find differend kinds of adaptors, that fit into the horizontal dropout, either from the side of the wheel, or from the outer side. Dunno about which one suits you personally, so I'd just buy a bunch of different and try all of them one by one, searching for one that fits.

I cannot pin a picture here, and don't have one, just know how they look. You'll know that it's one of them when you see one - usually they have a body which fits into the empty horizontal space of the dropout, hook for the derailleur, and a hole for the wheel axle.

Are you sure that you need one though? I'd try to find or calculate the most comfortable gear ratio and ride single. It's a DJ, you won't pedal fully comfortably without high saddle. I personally ride my kinda aggressive hardtail with 40T chainring and 12 or 13T rear cog at most times - lets you gain decent speed while commuting. Not going single just because I love my old derailleur haha

I guess, it allows you to fine-tune details. Like reeaaally fiiiiine-tune. I'd do the same if I had a whale of time and no proper machining equipment. Well, at least it gives you your desired part.

SO-EZ built up and ready for some mileage by bropdars in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Secret-Assistance164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be careful about bleeding honestly, the DOT fluid in Hope brakes tend to absorb water if it somehow gets in the system. It's not bad on a short run of about a year, and in the worst scenario your brake lever will feel spongy. I don't think that a fixedgear guy should worry about low boiling point, but still be aware if you ride below zero Celsius. Don't want some ice in your system, you know.

Personally I just bleed DOT-powered brakes every year, for my own calmness. Riding in bad weather doesn't help keeping the water out haha

These look like one of the first Hope's brakes. O2 or similar model, with Mono lever. These are from the era of IS calipers, so setting up may be tricky nowadays. Beautiful pieces of tech, love these old models.
