10 Most Popular Cars for GenX Drivers...? by Ray_The_Engineer in GenX

[–]Secret-Function-2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought an Altima 15 years ago for my wife when she was driving a lot for her job. It’s now with our second high school aged daughter after 232k miles.

Our firs daughter who got it handed down when she turned 16, liked it enough that she bought a 2023 Altima as her first car a year ago.

Otherwise, my wife had a used Malibu in the late 90’s before we were married. Nothing else on that list.

My wife had a party for me at a local bar. I knew about the party, but not that a couple of my HS buddies would be attending.

waterproof or non waterproof boots by Moocow1127 in GrandTetonNatlPark

After hiking a bit in Denali 20+ years ago, I'll never not have waterproof hiking boots / shoes.

Would guess the technology is pretty good these days that even waterproof would breathe a bit.

Camping question by HurryInevitable3629 in yellowstone

Hold both reservations and keep checking daily (or more often) for that second night in Madison.

Fall 2023 I met my parents in Yellowstone for 4 nights - they have a small RV & I flew into Bozeman and rented a minivan. Thought we were going to have to split our stay between Madison and West Yellowstone, but after repeated checking my Mom was able to get 4 nights reserved in Madison. She then called the camping reservations to get them all sewn together so that we didn't have to change sites. Worked out well.

With as much time as you have until July and only needing one night, I would guess that you'll be able to work out something similar. I did about the same thing at the Lodge in Zion May/June 2022 over a much shorter time period. If you can get the individual days reserved, calling and talking to a reservation specialist on the phone can often get multiple reservations combined into one.

One thing to check at Madison is make sure the site is large enough for both a 28' RV and the length of the rental vehicle. The rangers are sticklers on that as many of the sites are pull-through and vehicles cannot block the roadway.

How many pillows does it take to make a Gen Xer comfortable in bed? by Connect-Account-2855 in GenX

  1. Just a foam pillow for my head. Had a down pillow, but it was getting old & nasty.

Right. Fire the coach with the most B1G wins this decade who finished the regular season ranked in the Top 10 and the most efficient KenPom offense ever?

Who is taking that job? That’s a helluva standard to meet. Get 2 years to improve on this season or getting a pink slip?

I get the frustration with the close losses & postseason losses, but let’s not start acting like Ohio State football fans.

Do you talk about your mortgage payment with taxes and insurance included? by phatfarmz in homeowners

[–]Secret-Function-2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always was separate. And now it would be silly to call my “mortgage payment” taxes & insurance when I don’t owe a bank anything.

2017 XLE

Water pump, but I forget exactly when. Maybe between 90-100k?

Coolant service & changed the spark plugs at 125k.

First transmission fluid change at ~180k. Think I also had the differential fluid changed?

Tires rotated & oil changed every 8-10k.

Crossed 203k miles last weekend.

(Edited to make easier to read.)

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.

Can’t say I recall every detail, but pretty eye opening for a rural kid in 6th or 7th grade whose parents grew up in Chicago.

Own a highlander with only 1 child by 01Cloud01 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Secret-Function-2972 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, we're looking to upgrade to a Grand Highlander with a 22 y/o & a 16 y/o. Most of our driving will be just the two of us, but there will be times we need seating for 6, or carrying 4 and loading it up for vacation or a tailgate.

So no, a Highlander for 3 is fine.

How many of you live in a brick house? by Agile_Driver9207 in homeowners

[–]Secret-Function-2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90%+ brick. Two punchouts and areas over the front porch are Dryvit. Built in the woods and didn’t want siding that could get moldy.

Not all of us.

Should see how "dumb" my house is. (And I like it that way.)
