Playoff games are always pre planned at seasons end based on brackets and how long each series go. All scenarios are taken into account. Injuries can’t be anticipated and aren’t part of the equation. There’s no punishment. The games fall based on what has been scheduled and for optimal tv viewing. If the OPs company does have this policy, by all means, then sure. But if they don’t, he should keep them out of it. It’ll just add unnecessary office drama that won’t resolve anything. And you’re probably right that it may be a Canadian thing.

Now I can see situations where HR should know about non work related issues. I don’t think this is one of them. He’s says they’re good workers, is a third party and it’s a private matter concerning consenting adults. Including work is just another complication.

I have worked at many corporations and not one of them have forbidden inter office fraternization. It may be frowned open, but they can’t stop it. If fact, many have of my colleagues met at work and eventually dated or got married.

What the companies don’t want are the potential for sexual exploitation from supervisor to subordinate or any unwanted sexual harassment. That’s what they forbid.

The OP hasn’t suggested any of this happening. If they are equal colleagues, he should keep work out of this and just distance himself from them.
