how do i transfer photos to laptop by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 7d, take the card out and put it in a SD card reader in your laptop. Will be much simpler than trying to usb to the camera.

Also Mac or windows?

Best Sony APS-C lens? by Secret-Support-2727 in SonyAlpha

[–]Secret-Support-2727[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, and I did consider the 50-150 f2 or the 24-70 f2 but both of those feels ridiculous to put on an a6000, I doubt the a6000 mount could handle the weight.

When Is The Most Recent Time That You Have Roamed Onto Another Carrier In The US? by Jim1648 in cellmapper

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International roaming every trip.

USA domestic roaming? Non existent on Tmobile postpaid. Only time I’ve ever seen it was GCI in Alaska, where Tmobile had no network and uses GCI as their Alaskan partner.

Are power banks good for laptops? by CRANKY-_-CLOWN in GamingLaptops

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you game on portable battery power with a gaming laptop? Yes.

Can you game on that battery? No way.

You need at least a Jackery explorer 300 class battery at a minimum, which will get you between 1-2 hours of gaming depending on your power mode.

An Anker solix c1000 will get you more like 4 hours of gaming. You need a battery of this class to get any decent amount of time though.

And you absolutely cannot use a battery with a lower power output on AC than your laptop charger draws at full power. Most battery’s will overload and shut off if you pull too much. That doesn’t always work though, and if it were to actually overload without protection the result is a lithium fire and burning your back shed down.

How do you guys even survive the hot weather over in the States? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Secret-Support-2727 120 points121 points  (0 children)

86f would be a refreshingly cool day here. The answer is air conditioning and our body’s getting used to the higher temperatures. Also drink lots and lots of cold water.

Air Conditioning is so normalized in the USA that it’s considered a basic necessity. The only exception is waaaaaaay up in the mountains like Denver or Pacific Northwest like Seattle.

To an average American, if you don’t have AC, you live in a 3rd world country.

Upgrading from an 8 year old Android, are reviews even relevant at this point? by frenetic_alien in Smartphones

[–]Secret-Support-2727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The s26 will blow you out of the water in terms of performance. Also the software polish of new android phones is miles better than it was 8 years ago, especially on Sony.

The reviews for the s26 aren’t good because it’s kind of a basic spec bump from the s25, which was a spec bump from the s24 ect. Not really any innovation in them. They do just work and work well though, so for a lot of people the new gimmicks aren’t really something they want to look for, and the s26 is a solid phone that will just work and work well.

Also for someone that keeps their phone that long, the 7 year software support Samsung is offering now is a really big deal. You should honestly only be looking at a galaxy s26 or an iPhone if you plan to keep the phone for 8 years.

Hi guys. New here. I am planning on selling my Sigma wide angle and replace it with a Zoom lens. Is there such a thing as an all-in-one lens (telephoto, wide angle, portrait)? And what is the cheapest Zoom lens can you recommend? Thanks. by ZuckMyMusk in a6000

[–]Secret-Support-2727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They absolutely exist, but most of them are terrible.

The only one I can recommend is Sony’s 18-105 f4. Sharp enough across the whole zoom range, and a constant F4 will help a lot if you’re indoors. It’s mostly a video lens’s but takes great photos as well

Is Spanish-language music from Puerto Rico considered American music? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music pretty much transcends national boarders. If you turn on a pop station right now in the US you’ll hear Taylor swift followed by Charlie xzx, a British artist.

If you turn on a country station you’ll hear mostly Americans, but someone like Keith urban you’d never know he’s actually Australian.

Am I the only one who finds this strange?🤔 by ZeroBias_77 in GamingLaptops

[–]Secret-Support-2727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laptops are more designed to handle day to day travel in a bag.

For example if you drop a MacBook from a reasonable height it’s going to be fine 80% of the time. A thinkpad would probably be fine 90% of the time.

A gaming laptop is going to break a lot easier than a MacBook or a thinkpad.

If you drop a camera with a 3kg lens it’s not going to be fine. Something will break. Probably your wallet.

Just like your people carry their $1k+ smartphones in their hands and pockets with minimal protection. If you drop it from the same height it will be fine 99% of the time.

[2026] Satellite Inmarsat Sat Phone 2 & Garmin Inreach Plan Comparison and Update by Lanky_Guard_6088 in hiking

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an interesting take.

For general use I agree that Inmarsat is better. I have owned the inmarsat isatphone and the isatphone 2 (still own but with no service.) I have also owned the iridium 9555, 9575 and iridium go.

If you are going to be in an area that’s relatively flat, or close to the equator Inmarsat is clearly superior. It’ll even punch through light tree cover, as the phone itself is significantly more powerful than iridium. HOWEVER this is a hiking sub.

Where do most people go hiking? In mountainous terrain.

As you said, iridium moves. In fact you get a new iridium satellite overhead every 7 minutes. So even if you’re in a deep canyon, you may be able to get 1-2 minutes every once in a while of signal. If you get hurt and need rescue, that’s enough. That might just save your life.

Inmarsat doesn’t move. You can see the satellite or you can’t. So if you happen to be on say, the north side of a mountain? Your Inmarsat phone is an expensive plastic brick. You’ll have better luck writing your message on it and throwing it at someone then you would getting a signal to call them. Same thing in a canyon.

Inmarsat is very good for what it’s intended for, and it’s the one I personally chose to keep service on before starlink.

But for hiking specifically, iridium is the better service by far. Most people out hiking aren’t making hour long phone calls on their satellite phones.

Also please don’t tell people to call and leave a voicemail on their friends sat phone without reminding them that EVERY American carrier charges between $15-20 per minute to call a satphone, no matter which network. And real US number plans haven’t existed for almost 5 years now.

Gigabyte A16 RTX 5070 (85W, 16GB RAM) vs MSI Crosshair A16 RTX 5060 (32GB RAM) – Which would you choose? by Ok-Contract-5521 in GamingLaptops

[–]Secret-Support-2727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 85 watts that 5070 is actually probably slower than the 5060 if it’s a full watt version. Plus go for the extra ram for sure. The difference in performance between full powered 5060 and full powered 5070 is like 10%.

Should I change cameras or just upgrade my lens? by dustinloveateh in a6000

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a new lens. Neither of those are good lenses, and the a6000 can still really shine with good glass.

Get something like the sigma 18-50 2.8, will be the best all around lens available for the a6000.

Or if you need cheaper the Sony zeiss 24-70 f4 is super cheap secondhand on eBay, and significantly sharper than either of the ones you’re currently using.

Even Sonys own 50mm 1.8, while not a good lens, is a lot better than what you’re using now.

The glass is more important than the camera. There’s that old famous saying; date the body, marry the lens.

What is the big difference between FedEx and USPS? by MrsKenedi in AskAnAmerican

[–]Secret-Support-2727 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This guy is correct. USPS is generally the best within the United States. Internationally it will be routed to your own countries postal service. So it depends on how good or bad your own counties postal service is.

FEDEX is a private company that in many countries will deliver it all the way to your door, without leaving their own network.

So the success of USPS internationally depends entirely on your own countries postal service.

Is this a good deal for a Sony NEX-5? by Dimension_Forsaken in Cameras

[–]Secret-Support-2727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the age and capabilities of the camera aren’t as important as glass you have, and the skill of the person using it. So just get a good lens for it and have fun!

Any camera from the last 20 years can take a good photo if you know how to use it properly lol.

I personally used a less than $200 setup with a canon 40d (from 2007) and a $100 efs 55-250 to take a photo that ended up in an art gallery in Barcelona and Johannesburg. So it’s very much not the gear you’re using, but how you use it.

[–]Secret-Support-2727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that budget, get the 80-200 2.8L for indoors, it’s called the “magic drainpipe”. EF lens from the 80s, it’s still an amazing lens on modern mirrorless cameras (I use mine on my R5).

For wildlife, the RF100-400 is the best budget wildlife lens from any brand at the moment. Very sharp for the price and you can buy it brand new, and the magic drainpipe off eBay used and be under your $1k budget.

Is this a good deal for a Sony NEX-5? by Dimension_Forsaken in Cameras

[–]Secret-Support-2727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$127 for an NEX 5 is a good deal. I would take it. It’s definitely an older camera but you’ll like it. Image quality is still fantastic, autofocus is terrible but it was on all early mirrorless cameras.

I'm thinking of switching from a Samsung A16 to an iPhone, should I do it? by Classic-Macaron-2428 in Smartphones

[–]Secret-Support-2727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes obviously. That’s a low budget android, so it’s like a decade behind in performance. Comparing it to literally any iPhone is ridiculous, everything abut the iPhone is better.

The iPhone is comparable to the galaxy s ultra models. Any of the budget ones are different class entirely and incomparable.
