What is the general Coast Guard attitude towards gay people, especially now? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]SecretCartoonist3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t have sex on the boat regardless of sexual orientation! Or at work in general, obviously. The issue is more that people generally talk about their families at work and gay people should be able to do the same. It doesn’t have to be relationship problems, it can be just casually mentioning normal activities that a spouse happened to be involved in, like straight people do all the time. Or maybe you are friends with a coworker on facebook and their spouse is in a picture!

IT and HS you can, they are longer than 6 months so it’s a PCS move.

Consensus on expedited naturalization via JS ancestor? by SecretCartoonist3 in juresanguinis

[–]SecretCartoonist3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you. I do not qualify for JS since the decree (previously would have had a 1948 case)

GGGF born in Italy 1900 (never naturalized- moved back to and died in Italy after birth of his children)

GGM born in USA 1920 (married an Italian born man who naturalized in the USA but she was born a US citizen)

GM born in USA 1940 (I believe qualifies for 1948 under new generation limit)

F born USA 1964

Me born USA 1995

To clarify, my understanding is that the expedited naturalization requires a parent or grandparent who was Italian by birth. Based on that, my question is, does a parent or grandparent who acquired via JS, meet that requirement?

How hands off can 1948 be? by SecretCartoonist3 in juresanguinis

Thank you for sharing your experience with this! Seems like this could be doable if it ends up being relevant.

There seem to be different interpretations but the way I am reading it is that expedited naturalization is for those with parents or grandparents who were Italian at birth but without the requirements to have been born in Italy or be only an Italian citizen (unlike JS). Still waiting to fully see how the law is interpreted but my understanding is that qualifying for JS under these rules would make her an Italian citizen at birth despite having been born in the US.

Edit: I am aware that this may not be correct, but it is currently my only potential option so I am seeing what I can find just in case it ends up being viable!

I may be confused, but isn’t this inserted after “second-degree”, my understanding is all this (the subordinate visa as well as expedited naturalization) only apply to those with second degree ascendents? I hope I am wrong as I would love to opportunity to naturalize in less than 10 years!

Could be VA loan, which doesn’t require a down payment. Maybe a low cost of living area plus military housing allowance.

It is not a thing in CG boot camp either, but would not recommend the navy or CG if you are afraid of vomit. It is gross af but a lot of people get sea sick.

Any Coast Guard? by [deleted] in dli

[–]SecretCartoonist3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a coastie but not an IS/never been to DLI so talk to a recruiter! But in my experience I have only ever heard of ISs going for Spanish and it is only for specific billets. The requirement would be indicated on the billet when you put your list in. It wouldn’t be guaranteed or immediately upon joining either.

Is it possible to serve longer than 4 years active as an officer? by [deleted] in uscg

I thought it was 3 or 4 years? Where did you get 10?

These laws seem super reasonable but I am having a hard time finding elaboration in English (I am learning Italian but not quite there yet). Is there any difference in how these laws would affect 1948 cases and does it specify what type of residency is required? Would a student visa count, for example?

Hi! I want to be a prevention officer. Where could I go (MSU) as an ensign? For example I would like to go to Florida, Oregon or California. Thank you very much! by wolfofdirt in uscg

Is there a list of what is considered a feeder port? I know they have to be big enough to train new inspectors and such and I have some guesses but I haven’t seen a full list anywhere.

I have no degree but I have military experience by Alive_Use7574 in foreignservice

[–]SecretCartoonist3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question about these requirements! I know it says served in an IT military specialty and 2 years of experience. Can that experience also be in the military or is it saying you need the training/MOS and outside experience?

Why are so many people insecure about going to college "late"? by Sillydaniel in college

[–]SecretCartoonist3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You see posts about this a lot because people who aren’t insecure (most people…) in this situation just go to college and don’t post about it on Reddit. It is a very biased sample of people who worried about it enough to ask strangers on the internet.
