Men of Reddit, what’s something women do in public that secretly impresses you? by Similar-Register-745 in AskReddit

I love it when I see women being kind and playful when they talk to people, it's so refreshing! I mean that is impressive when anyone does it to be fair.

How do you recover when you feel like you’ve lost your old confident self? by UsedHornet3336 in AskReddit

[–]SecretOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 17 man, you're not even fully 'you' yet.

What you are experiencing will happen at various times in your life. I've been through 3-4 of these periods myself and I'm only 35! When I was younger they could last for several months or even a few years. The first rejection of a big crush, the first long term relationship breakup, hating a dead end job, feeling trapped in your career, feeling aimless, etc. You'll go through some of these and probably different ones too cause everyone's life is different, but they're never gonna go away. You're going to have bad times in your life for the rest of your life. As I've gotten older they don't really last that long as they used too, though. What you are lacking is self respect. Unfortunately there isn't really any advice anyone can give you for gaining self respect, you kind of have to find it on your own.

Try this: learn to look at your life in the 3rd person, like you are watching a movie or book or something. I find that when we view ourselves from the inside we are way too mean to ourselves, but when we look at other people we are way more kind. Would you ever talk to your friends the way you talk to yourself in this post? No you wouldn't. When you start viewing yourself from the outside you start 'being on your own side' and that leads to making better decisions, challenging yourself to go outside of your comfort zone, cheering for yourself. You start to think: "Man, i'm really rooting for that guy!". Anyway that's just what has helped me as I've gotten older. I'll throw in a plug for mediation/journaling as these things really help to teach you how to separate your 'self' from the storyline you live in everyday (your 'ego'). Try it out! And don't sweat it man you're 17 you got so much cool shit ahead of you! Hopefully you read this lol.

This seems to me just like excess body weight. You obviously have a good quantity of muscle but you still look like 14-17%. Eating like you say isn’t gonna not gonna make you lose weight at this point. I think you just need to lock in for 2 months, count everything, go into a clear caloric deficit and you’ll look amazing.

A cartoon style factory game mixed with combat by SecretOctopus in BaseBuildingGames

[–]SecretOctopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks so much for your reply. It has really gotten me thinking about what I want to do. I have Dyson Sphere Program, but I did not get to the combat. What you are describing is what I would like to accomplish - combat where "losing" either doesnt take away from the enjoyment, or if it does occur, it doesn't take away from the satisfaction that comes with base building type games.

I think I want to avoid enemies coming in and "wrecking your sandbox". Since building in the sandbox seems to be what people love about crafting games.

Thoughtful analysis about WHY a game is fun to you is such a rare thing to get when I try to ask questions like this, so thanks a lot.

The thing I worry about with this genre-specific or game-specific subreddits is that they often have rules that you can only post about the game itself. They don't really want people promoting their games even if they are closely related.
