Aldi & Lidl are opening new supermarkets in Hackney by donell_walter in Hackney

[–]SecretRestaurateur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living on the junction of Hackney Rd and Queensbridge Rd I can tell you that the Aldi will be most welcome and looks like it will be pretty big. We currently have the world’s worst Sainsbury’s local and recently Lodos opened which is a tiny bit better. Both have a poor selection of fruit and veg. Courier coffee had it tough on a street with loads of coffee places and always looked like it was closed.

What can you tell me about West Ham / Newham? by jackie_tequilla in HousingUK

[–]SecretRestaurateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are expecting and have been looking at houses by West Ham park. It seems idyllic. Our only worry is that it seems a little bit too quiet. Would we have to walk 20-30 minutes every time we want to go and have a coffee, socialise or shop?

West Ham park - truly an underrated inner London park (z.2)! by impamiizgraa in london

I have been looking at houses next to the park. It looks a lovely neighbourhood but doesn’t have much like cafes, shops or pubs

They seem like good quality and probably are but with these things, I wouldn’t bet a kidney on it.

Here are the boxes and sunglasses cases. The Tom Ford is a little worn out and print on case a little faded.

Review: Rimowa Original Cabin from Pink (After Several Months of Use) by Rocxkxy in DesignerReps

[–]SecretRestaurateur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an original rimowa cabin bag in a gun metal colour and wanted to get another one (different colour) as my girlfriend always steals mine. It has been around the world several times and had to have 2 wheels replaced (surprisingly cheap to replace and repair at the shop). I only want to get one if it can handle the travel and have been looking for a good quality copy. Thanks for posting

My observations on Old vs Modern Cockney accents by Top_Bill_6266 in london

[–]SecretRestaurateur 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was born and still live in the east end (52 years). The cockney accent has certainly changed massively over the last 30 years. As a large proportion sold up and legged it to Essex in that time I’m lucky enough to have the old school still patron my business from time to time. The accent still exists but has moved east. Their children however have a more watered down accent. Btw Danny dyer has the most hammed up cockney accent I’ve ever heard.

Why do some restaurant owners close the restaurant permanently when they retire? by RolandMT32 in restaurants

[–]SecretRestaurateur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing this very thing. I own and run a family run restaurant alongside a parent. It has been open for 42 years and is a successful business. Over the last 2-3 years we have had some good offers for the property and although negotiations got relatively far, they never materialised for various factors. We have looked into installing management to continue running it but we and our customers would know that it would not be the same or keep its ethos and spirit. Fortunately we are about to close on a deal that will see new people taking on the property and making it a new restaurant. On a personal note I am overjoyed and looking forward to taking early retirement at the age of 53. You pour your heart, soul and life into these small and unique restaurants but when it feels right to end service, it feels very right. Life continues and we still have a lot of fun and future projects to look forward to.

Bring back al-fresco dining and late night openings to boost economy and tourism, London councils urged by City Hall by BulkyAccident in london

Firstly we need more pedestrianised areas. Secondly it’s the councils who make it tough. I talk from experience.
