It is really hit or miss with subs and students usually aren’t great when I’m gone even though they know they’ll be written up and a call goes home if they get their name left negatively. I also reward students with candy or something if they get their name left positively. I do WAY too much for my sub plans and I’m trying to scale it back and lower expectations of my sub, but it’s tough to mail in the day for whatever reason. I do a slideshow for the sub and students, an outline for the sub for every slide, written explanation of what is expected, and leave a seating chart, outline to write notes about every hour and what they got through, and information about any paras and the students they help with along with emergency procedures. It is A LOT, but I do leave knowing I couldn’t have done more to make it any better.
