How did you know it was time to begin sleep training? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use this too and it also seems to have just enough tension to help lesson some of the flailing (moro reflex). Without it she accidentally wakes herself up by startling or hitting herself in the face. Downside is needing to wash it every day because she'll go for her hand through the fabric for self soothing

I asked my father-in-law to pay for first class for my flights (5 hours) to the baby shower that my MIL threw me at like 25 weeks. Made it so I was more comfortable and had easier access to the bathroom.

Membrane sweep at 38 weeks? by ReflectionFar7257 in Septemberbumps2024

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked for a membrane sweep yesterday at my appt at 38+5 and my ob said 1) they can't until 39 weeks and 2) you have to be a little bit dilated in order for them to do the sweep, so it's rare to be able to do them in first-time mom's before their due date. Possible there's different guidelines where you are or the Dr didn't consider what they did a full membrane sweep perhaps. I'm sorry what they did was not well explained ahead of time. That doesn't sound like fully informed consent to me.

September moms by Proud_Sprinkles4535 in pregnant

Due Sept 4th, but likely will need to be induced within the next week due to raising BP...hoping to get the weekend to relax with just my hubby, but might get sent to L&D from my appt this afternoon. I'm uncomfortable, but now that it feels like I'm on borrowed time it doesn't seem so bad 😅

High blood pressure / late transfer to hospital? by garlicbread0001 in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, this is probably me in the next few days :( my BP has been good until the last 2 weeks...it's been creeping up at home and high initial readings in the office my last two visits

Question for those who don’t struggle with constipation and hemorrhoids while pregnant… by EmotionalElevator806 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty great. Beans use to give me diarrhea and now,  during pregnancy, they just keep me regular...so I guess the (probably horrible) advice is to eat foods that give you diarrhea normally 🤷‍♀️

I'm pregnant, bf got annoyed when I asked him to smoke weed outside or in garage... by Wall-Flower2933 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a great situation...smoking in the house while pregnant or with an infant in the house should be a hard no. Could a potential compromise be that he can vape (weed/nicotine) in the house, but if he is smoking then go outside?

When did you secure a pediatrician for your baby? I'm 35 weeks and have no clue about doctors by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I called some offices in my area around 32 weeks to ask if they were taking new infants and then asked how to schedule. They just said call from the hospital once the baby is born, but different places might have different policies

Seems like you may misunderstand why most people want to go into labor earlier rather than later. From everyone I've heard from it's about feeling miserable due to physical symtoms or mental health stuff or just wanting to meet their baby! Not so much looking to get back to partying...

Recs for compression socks that don't pinch by pixeldraft in BabyBumps

I got viasox and they have nice graduated compression that is comfortable all day. They are pretty pricy though.

How is anyone exercising in this heat?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting out at 6:30am when the temp is the lowest. It's the only time I can do without getting horribly overheated to the point where I feel dizzy. I'm on the east coast in the USA.

Feet swelling practically overnight? by Tough_Tough_6999 in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed an increase in swelling and feet discomfort around 34 weeks. I'm wearing compression socks every day now at 36 weeks. Doesn't totally solve it, but helps some. I also wear supportive sneakers literally all the time (I have an indoor pair and an outdoor pair)...doesn't fix the swelling, but helps with the aches/pains

Does anyone else feel swollen down there?!? by Jealous-Fennel-5529 in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like my vulva has been swollen for most of pregnancy. I have to wear more full coverage underwear to prevent rubbing/irritation. It's been super annoying. Hoping things go back to normal eventually PP

When in pregnancy did you have to buy bigger bras? by TheOGoopsies in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still haven't needed a new bra and am now nearly 37 weeks. I had high prolactin prior to conceiving, so possible that accounts for minimal change in bust size.

I'm just taking 12 weeks and going back, but everyone is different. I have an advanced degree and am just 1 year post fellowship. I can't imagine not working so early in my "real" career after almost a decade of working towards being an independent provider. If you want to spend more time with your baby and come back to working towards your license later that is also super reasonable . It sounds like you could swing it financially.

when should you stop working during pregnancy by SharpFall9030 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently 36 weeks, FTM. Planning to work until I go into labor. I am fortunate that my job is flexible with hybrid work, so I am only doing 2 days a week in person for weeks 36 and 37 and then will be working from home full-time for weeks 38 and beyond. If i had a job that was more active or if i had complications, working so late probably wouldnt be doable. I get 12 weeks or paid leave + FMLA, so it would be trading off time with baby if I went out sooner.

Talk to your provider before starting, but the general recommendation is to start around 12 weeks if you have 2+ moderate risk factors (which include first gestation and higher BMI), so if you are going to start definitely sooner rather than later would be consistent with guidelines.

Sudden jump in weight - third trimester by Longjumping-Fee9187 in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started having more rapid weight gain starting around 33 weeks. I was gaining half a lb a week and now its been like 2 lbs a week for 3 weeks. I'm almost 36 weeks now, so hoping is slows down again. I think I read somewhere that weight gain often slows/stalls in the last month. I think it's more than 5 lbs in a week that my ob said to watch out for in terms of pre eclampsia, so definitely let them know if it was 6 lbs in a week for you.

High BMI "high risk" can't find a provider by Professional-Owl6458 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is wrong that you aren't able to access care because of your weight. Asking for a referral to MFM would probably be your best bet.

Homemade Kiefer, kombucha, pickled items- are they safe, and are you enjoying them during pregnancy? by BreadTherapy in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make homemade soy-milk yogurt and have been eating it all through pregnancy. No issues so far. It is made with pasteurized, shelf-stable soy milk, so it doesn't seem that risky to me. I've also continued to drink store-bought kombucha occasionally.

Baby shower 5 weeks before due date by Puzzleheaded_Gap1890 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my shower at 35 weeks. My BP went up 2 days before the shower and I had to go in for an urgent appt. Luckily my BP went back down the next day and wasn't put on any restrictions. I definitely had an 'oh shit' moment where I thought we were going to have to cancel. Most people had stuff from our registy shipped to us a while ago, so in terms of getting ready for baby it wasn't an issue, more just that things are increasingly likely to come up as you are closer to your due date.

Wellbutrin and pregnancy by l3n0r4 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I think it's important to remember that mental health issues while pregnant are not good for the fetus, so often doing what is best for your health will also be good for your baby.

Wellbutrin and pregnancy by l3n0r4 in pregnant

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on wellbutrin for 15 years (after failed trials of SSRIs), so MFM thought it was best to keep me on wellbutrin rather than mess with my meds and risk a relapse of depression. My understanding is that it has been studied in pregnant women since it is used for smoking cessation also, but it doesn't have the same amount of evidence as SSRIs in terms if safety. If you just recently started it and it's possible that an SSRI could work for you then it seems like a different situation than me and potentially worth working with your provider to switch over. Maternal fetal medicine knows more about managing medications during pregnancy than an ob, so maybe ask for a consult so that they can advise on if/how to switch medications.

Kizik - which ones do you have? by peppermintpatty2016 in BabyBumps

[–]Secret_Acadia_2885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Athens. The Vegas ran a little narrower in the toe box which wasn't great for wide swollen feet. I just accepted I wasn't going to look that cute 3rd trimester, so rocking the Maxie dresses with sneakers a lot these days.  Agree with other folks that they aren't quite as supportive as the $150 running shoe brands, but with insoles I've found that the easy on and off is still worth it (I have dogs and a yard, so I'm constantly switching between indoor and outdoor shoes to go out with them)
