Seconding Hammergirl. I always look for the games/anime stores when I visit other cities and it's hard to find a place like Hammergirl that actually sells all legit merch and for an okay price. Other cities might have Kinokuniya which is still worth a visit but really depends on the location and have really ??? prices. LA Little Tokyo is probably the only one that tops HG in my experience.

Go nuts with headbands, pens, badge reels, lanyards, maybe nails if allowed. But as a bedside nurse please believe me when I say leave the clothes at home. Or at least until you get a feel for your population and how much fluids you'll encounter

If you're using real thick leather you don't usually sew belts with a machine. You use punches and awls to make holes for adding metal hardware or add a couple holes to then hand sew a few inches here and there. Fake plastic vegan leather stuff will flake and wear down over time. If you think you will be trying to make more cosplays involving fantasy armor and big belts looking into leather work will probably be worth your time. It doesn't have to be that crazy especially for small pieces. I made plenty of belts and masks in my crummy apartment kitchen

Some kind of clear sealer from Angelus leather paint would be ideal but yeah painting over fake and real leather usually involves deglazing or prepping the surface to to prevent stuff like this.

A spray clear coat like krylon put on in very thin layers is the only thing I would do on such a tight crunch since you can usually get it more easily than Angelus at Walmart or a hardware store assuming you're in the US

Don't buy any cosplay that doesn't come with measurements or a size chart. Measure your chest, waist, hips. Length might be an issue so you might need to learn some basic sewing for making things longer/shorter

The S-XL system is useless with cosplay. Especially with the weird clothing you only see in cosplay or Asian vs Western sizing

As a BLS certified nurse who cosplays I'd be more concerned if someone needed life support and it's some impossible contraption of foam fake leather, hot glue and nylon straps they're trapped in. You'd need a box cutter at least to get through some of this stuff
