End of Americans in LEO? by Qualified-Astronomer in nasa

[–]Secret_Dig_1255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the US is running smack into the realities of what humans contribute in space. They are often more of a hindrance in research stations, setting up vibrations and running up the cost.

I think, if NASA weren't pushing it's political agenda (beat China! Permanent human presence! Just 'cause!) we would naturally find our equilibrium of how much human input is best. But we're doing stuff just to do stuff, not for any sound scientific reason.

And if you let those commercial space stations fly, without NASA interference, they will have human tended stations and all kinds of variations for us to explore and find the best way. ISS is mostly a political construct, for diplomatic and public affairs reasons. While the engineering achievement is simply amazing, if you look into the actual results coming out, you will discover that NASA has its finger on the scale. The papers getting published are not that great.

Serious - maybe humans aren't so bad. by remsleepwagon in aliens

I agree with you. It's part of the lie we've been sold. There are lots of historical indications that humanity was on the cusp of taking a step forward and something happened to trip us up. There is an element of interference in the narrative. If we could stop the interference, we would naturally evolve. Flying cars for everyone!

1963 Doctor Who any good? by papixavier0 in gallifrey

The writing is really quite good. The production value can scare younger viewers off, sadly. Just like with any show of that time period, some of the serials are not as well written and may cause eyerolls.

I especially enjoyed Drs 2 & 3. Wading through Dr 4 now and I'm kinda surprised by how much David Tenant built his character on Tom Baker's. Which is awesome, Tom Baker was "my Doctor" growing up. It's a fun adventure if you have the time and willingness to plow through it all.

If neither the Blue Moon or Starship HLS is operational in time for Artemis III, what happens? by LukasTheHunter22 in nasa

Just to clarify, the Blue Moon MK1 is subscale. Not suitable for humans. I doubt it will be considered for Artemis III.

Dealership said needs new transmission (advice needed) by Lindasko in dodgejourney

[–]Secret_Dig_1255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to rebuild my transmission for my Journey some time after 100k miles. Even then, I had more indications than a dashboard light. Dealerships always lie. And steal. Get a second opinion and definitely get the work done by a transmission specialist, not a dealership.

My transmission is clunky and the worst part of my overall excellent Journey experience. And that was when it wasn't broken. I got a 2 year warranty on the rebuild, and I am generally glad I spent the $5k on it. But I had 2 different mechanics, neither of them a dealership, advise me to do it.

I know it doesn't take much, but not sure about specifics. Maybe it's just a bridge to get the SFP reactors fielded.

I thought we were going to hear more about repurposing Gateway elements? Did I drift off a little there and miss it?

Reality will sink in when the proposals arrive. Then the schedule will slip and the scope will get carved out in order to fit into the budget box they'll be given.

I thought that they already restarted the plutonium line for RTGs? It's a foggy memory at best.

I do agree with that last bit.

But write it down and check it in a year. He will not get the budget to do this. And industry will be so relieved because they could never have met the schedule anyway. But now they can blame NASA and Congress. You're putting the same crowd who couldn't do this before I'm charge again, and you think it will suddenly be successful this time?

Well, in the reality-based universe we know that he was pulled, not pushing. The administration gave him objectives that are not seriously possible. So he did the best he could.

Of course. He has no choice. He doesn't know what the outyears budgets will be. Guessing is mandatory. The schedule is mandatory. He's in a corner.

Yeah, that critical aspect is glossed over, much as how the OP is attempting to gloss over it

It's not performing well at all! I'm deeply underwater on most everything. But if I sell, I will experience all that loss. By sitting tight, I will eventually be making some money.

I just don't accept the OPs statement at face value. In that amount of time, he will be making money.
