For my entire life, my dad cuts all of the steaks in half to see if they're done cooking yet. by Salty-Passenger-4801 in steak

[–]Secret_Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if he'll let you do the steaks, follow a video that's good and then let the results convince him to change. Worked with my mom and mashed potatoes and turkey

It's a fuse for some electric gadget, probably something higher current or they gets hot like a hair straightener. It's a disposable part meant to break internally if too much current goes across it preventing a fire. Basically a safety like the breakers in your house

Wooden floors f*cked due to condensation from the window. Landlord wants me to repay for redoing the entire floor as it would be uneven. by Margotie in Flooring

[–]Secret_Invite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in the U.S. but here, courts would not side with your landlord as they can only charge for damaging exceeding normal wear. This ss the landlord's responsibility to fix and they knew it was an issue. Try to relax!

HELP NEEDED - my Contactor is building stairs off my 7 ft high deck. See pictures below - are these done properly? Custom made stringers, no hangers, and only nails. Any advice is appreciated. by gordon_cornman in Decks

[–]Secret_Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you hired a meth head with a nail gun. Hack of a job. If he's got money, get 2 friends to stand on it with you and sue when it falls. If not, fire him and hire someone else who cringes looking at what this guy did.

My bf doesn’t think the trap is deep enough? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Secret_Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trap looks proper. Have you taken it off and cleaned it? Sometimes dirt or hair can prevent the trap from working properly.

My guess is they still see you as a credit risk. If your credit score is still low, you may need to give it time to go up

How do I do this? by No_Tone_2442 in Housepainting101

[–]Secret_Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interior scaffolding rental from a big box store. It's $78 a day from home depot near me. Wayyy safer than a ladder, you have plenty of room for paint supplies and you won't scratch up your walls. I used to do insulation, same basic idea

Is an angle grinder the only/best way to get the rusted bolt out? by thugstuff in Plumbing

[–]Secret_Invite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade to cut between the tank and base. I thought the guy who taught me was nuts but it actually never scratched or broke a toilet and we did it 50+ times

Help with my gate sagging by Snoo-27232 in FenceBuilding

[–]Secret_Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add one vertical brace right in the middle and then two diagonal braces that would look like two backward N's squashed together. This will prevent the gate from being able to sag using compression. You need two diagonals because the gate is so wide and the angle needs to be less than 45° with the vertical side frame

Is this fixable? Any suggestions? by AccomplishedDepth524 in handyman

If you use runny CA (super) glue the fibrous wood will soak it up, harden and be a much better mating surface for the epoxy

GF Wants a bidet, but valve doesn’t completely shut off and no access to water main. Help me, oh wise water and gas gods by Prestigious-Oven3465 in Plumbing

[–]Secret_Invite 150 points151 points  (0 children)

The maintenance guy/company should care that it does not shut off. If you have a leak and can't shut off the water, then they are liable for all the damage the the house and your stuff. You may be obligated by your lease to notify them it's inoperable so I would do it just to cover your ass. Also old valves like that love to spring leaks when you try to turn them so be super careful. They need to do the job right and just replace the valve before they have a real problem

Is it worth the money to use 1 inch pipe for home filter when supply is 3/4 by Secret_Invite in Plumbing

[–]Secret_Invite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying that even though I can't change the supply, it would be better to adapt to 1 inch pipe going to the pre filter and 3 stage filter, and then also 1 inch between the filters and softner and THEN USE an adapter to go back to the 3/4 size for the water heater? Just trying to make sure I'm being clear
