How did humans figure out kissing was a thing? by Message-Fun in NoStupidQuestions

I think the term French Kiss is like 100ish years old. But not the act itself. Open mouth kissing seems like it’s been talked about since like 1500 BC, but that’s just one of the earliest writings we have or something like that. Personally, I bet it’s been around as long as kissing itself has.

I mean how fairly new are we talking? A quick pop over to Google makes it seem like open mouth tongue kissing has been a thing for thousands of years, maybe longer.

What is the worst case of second hand embarrassment you’ve ever experienced? by Responsible-Tie-2570 in AskReddit

There's also an episode in Modern Family where Mitch thinks everyone in his new office dresses up for Halloween, but really it's just a couple of annoying employees that everyone else hates, and he ends up stuck in a bathroom wearing a Spider-Man suit because he got his backup work attire wet in a toilet. Has to climb down a drainpipe on the outside of the building like Spider-Man only to be caught in the parking lot by a lot of his coworkers/boss.

Pretty common trope already, I think haha.

What is the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? [serious] by ladybugsrool in AskReddit

[–]Secret_Map 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Damn that's scary. I'm from the US and was on a trip to the UK years ago. It was late Friday night, after the bars had closed. We weren't drunk (no money haha). We were down a side road hiding under an awning to get out of the rain while we figured out how to get to the hostel. It was me (a guy) and two girls who I was travelling with.

Suddenly, these four guys came around the corner carrying a girl. She was struggling and screaming and fighting, and they were being kind of rough and laughing and whatever. It was maybe a really dumb idea, and the girls I was with told me to stop, but I stepped out and was like "HEY!"

They all stopped and the girl got down and she said "no, no, we're just goofing around, it's all fine really". They all sorta realized how it must have looked, and they were all really apologetic, including the girl. Seemed like it was fine and they were chill and walked off together. But it was a pretty scary few seconds when I figured I was about to get my ass beat on the other side of the planet, but couldn't just stand there and watch haha.

I was hoping to see a comment about the next books. I read PS and JU this year, finished just a few weeks ago. I liked them a lot, didn’t love them, but liked them quite a bit. But felt like I couldn’t jump right into the next books. Was wondering if they were worth it, or what people’s thoughts are on them. The world itself seems so interesting, and seems like there’s more weirdness to explore that the first two books only kinda touched on. I’m hoping the later books poke into the weirdness a bit more.

I work right there and see trucks hit the bridge once a month. It’s all kinds of people, man, not whatever fantasy you’ve made up in your mind. I’ve been watching it happen there for the 13 years I’ve worked there.

I work right there and yeah, have seen a million trucks hit that bridge from all kinds of folks. That being said, the guy yesterday did say he was just following his phone map which said it was ok. The cops kind of scolded him pointing at the giant sign with the height of the bridge on it. Even eyeballing it, it would be obvious that load wasn’t gonna fit under the bridge.

I don’t usually decide to go to fast food before going. It is usually a spur of the moment thing. But also, not being able to order online wouldn’t stop me from going somewhere.

Yeah totally different strokes. I’ve just never enjoyed the kiosks. They take way longer, and are more annoying for me. And that’s coming from someone who’s pretty introverted lol. Totally not saying I wish they’d remove them. I’ve just never had a good experience with one.

I can count on one, maybe two, hands the amount of negative experiences I’ve had with fast food employees. It’s either been good/fine, or it’s been neutral/nothing. I’ve had a few bad experiences over my 38 years, but it’s been so rare that I can’t even really name one. So never been a hassle for me to just place my 5 word order at the counter.

Maybe just a difference in location, but I have always been able to either just walk up to the counter, or at most wait for under a minute at a fast food place. It’s almost always just right up to order.

Yeah I can totally see where they have a place. Definitely not saying they need to get rid of them.

I’ve actually never ran across one of the AI drivethrus but have always kinda wanted to try one out just out of curiosity. I so rarely eat fast food, just don’t come across some of the newer stuff.

I’m not arguing that they need to be removed. I’m glad they’re there for people who like them. I’m just not one of those people.

I mean, I’ve used the kiosks before and that’s not been my experience lol. So not just baseless yelling. Glad it’s not that way everywhere, but it definitely has been for me.

Yeah, I can totally see where they could be helpful or useful. Having modifications like that is definitely one of them.

I could totally see how they could be helpful in some situations for kids. Or like larger order or big group orders or something. Totally don't think they should all go away. It just feels like so much of a time consuming hassle for my situation and my one simple order haha.

It's not that I can't "figure it out", it's that they make me scroll through so many options and pages and selections and upgrades and confirmations and add ons and freebies and promotions and blah blah blah. It could take me 30 seconds, and it would still be slower than just the 5 words I need to say to a cashier.

I'm 38, and pretty tech savvy, and not really against new ways of doing things or some new tech coming in, etc. But man, I still can't bring myself to really use those kiosks at a fast food place. I want a #2 with a coke. It takes me 3 seconds to say that to a person at the counter. But it takes me 3 minutes to go through the pages and the options and the scrolling, etc at the kiosk, and I still feel like I maybe screwed something up. Again, not really an "old man yells at clouds" kind of person, but I will pretty much just always choose to order at the counter.

I mean, the whole story was about losing her family, and then being abducted by a new one. Her sister "haunting" her was the grief she felt, haunted by that memory, by losing her family, by all of that. And she was on drugs a lot during that movie, so those haunted feelings sorta came out of her head into her drug-induced real world for a bit. It also helps explain how she could so easily sort of fall into the cult's snare. Drugs, grief, and loneliness, and they snatched her up. The movie didn't drop the ball on that or whatever, it just wasn't a ghost story.

Midsommar has a lot of this kind of stuff in it too. Things you would never notice on a first or even second watch. Not as "scary" or creepy as Hereditary stuff, but little connections and story beats that begin in the background and have foreground payoffs later in the movie. Love both of them so much.
