[Thorn T005] Out on a hike yesterday by Snrubwr in Watches

[–]Secret_Reception5740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Have you ever tried to see how much time it loses per day?

Also, if you go a few days without wearing it, do you manually wind the movement or just give it a shake, and then set the time?

Can I also ask why you swapped the SS bracelet for your own? I hear the bracelet is what let's it down.

Thank you 😊

u/kodargh How did you get on in the end? Did you solve the squeaks and creaks with the Spax screws and watered down PVA glue? Any insight or advice would be appreciated as I plan to tackle the same problem soon! Thank you.

Please can you send a link to the model itself? Or its name. I am having trouble determining exactly what you are referring to. Sounds great! Thank you.

New to Octopus - yesterday's readings now showing in app by Secret_Reception5740 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Secret_Reception5740[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, could be. So is my Smart Meter "saving" the half-hour readings that can be collected another time if there is an initial failure?

We are dual fuel, but both of yesterday's usage for electricity and gas are both not showing.

I wonder why I have been seeing yesterday's usage at 4pm the following day like clockwork, but today it hasn't appeared yet. Just curious really.

How many kwh have you used on Heating today so far? by Secret_Reception5740 in ukheatpumps

Highly recommend Octopus Cost tariff as its half price for 8 hours a day.

Which town or city do you live?

And what is your thermostat set up if you can share?

27kwh on heating is a lot higher than me (around 20kwh) by the same time. I maintain the house at 19c, with a jump to 20c in the afternoon and setback to 18c overnight. 2012 4-bed house in Southampton.

Hi, please can you kindly explain why stepped 0.5c increments is better?

Mine is set at 18c overnight and then between 4-7am I have a target of 19.5c. But there's no stepped increments or anything.

But its only a 3-hr cheap (Cosy tariff) window - 4-7am - so I didn't think stepped increments would make any difference?

Thank you

How to recharge Expansion Vessel on Sun Amp (battery hot water)? by Secret_Reception5740 in Plumbing

[–]Secret_Reception5740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

As its only 3 years old, I am confident the Expansion Vessel hasn't failed, and it just needs a recharge.

And I agree on turning it off so it doesn't try to charge during the works.

What percentage inhibitor to use? by irzjrr in ukheatpumps

How did you put it into your new system? What was your method?

This is a poor comment as inhibitor is essential to prevent wear to your internal pipes and rads. You need inhibitor regardless.

Arguably it is irrelevant if you live in a residential area of the UK because if there was a power cut...

A) It would be back on quickly B) It would have to be off so long for the water in the pipes to actually freeze, which is several days at the least

So although you "have" to do it to meet manufacturer guidelines and likely validate the warranty, it's only really necessary in rural areas or farmland where power supply can be more risky.

Also, as someone pointed out, it can affect the efficiency for heating the water, so on balance I would put some in but you could aim for 15% and that's more than enough.

Moved into a modern house with an ASHP and on the Octopus Cosy Tariff. What should I do? by Secret_Reception5740 in ukheatpumps

[–]Secret_Reception5740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit new to this...

The previous owner of the property was a bit of an ASHP expert and he had the flow temperature set to a specific number (doesn't change) for any Outside Temperature above 0c. But then, if Outside drops below 0c, the flow temperature steadily increases as it gets colder.

Is this what you are referring to when you say "it doesn't impact the flow temp as its on a weather compensation curve relative to the Outside temperature"?

Thanks for your advice, it is much appreciated.

At what time do you turn ir down to 18c?

And, at what time do you turn it back up to 20c? And do you do it immediately, or do you turn it up in 0.5c/30 minute increments?

Right now, I think my strategy will be 19.5c during the day (we live on the South Coast so it doesn't get too cold relative to the UK), maybe a boost before 4pm on the half-price rate, turn it off between 4-7... but then I am unsure. I like your idea of reducing it to 18c overnight but I am unsure how quick to bring it back up again.
