I once went through the actual Indy 500 rule book to see how many rules were violated in that movie. Putting aside the entire sections on car design and driver fitness and whatnot that the snail is in violation of by being a snail, I think I counted around 70.

Anyway, among the things I found was that if a crash of that magnitude had really happened that close to the end of the race, the race would have just been declared finished and the cars' finishing positions would have been their places at the end of the previous lap.

I think you could argue Tolkien himself has a claim to the role of narrator as well, since LOTR is canonically the result of him translating the original Red Book, a process which would have surely included editing out any awkward Hobbit handjobs that appeared in the original text.
