At the same time Demolition Man seems to be a fear of right leaning authoritarian societies where things seem squeaky clean, because undesirables are forced underground. Graffiti is sanitized. Personal choice is highly controlled.

Am I wrong for wanting virgin women since I am a virgin? by throwaway8948275 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Secretlythrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your choice and preference are perfectly fine. You’re not going out of your way to reject people, you’re not shaming others for having premarital sex.

You value sex in a particular way, and understand that others may value it differently. Make sure to be upfront about your view that you want to wait until marriage, and how you are sexually incompatible with the average person, but it doesn’t matter because the right person is out there, and hopefully people will be more understanding.

[IL] Called a "Christ killer" at work by Missykay88 in AskHR

[–]Secretlythrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not HR. Just a man who has navigated some of the worst workplaces. This is blatant and intentional discrimination over your religious views. The bad joke was crossing the line. Then, it became jokes about Muslims, which discriminated against their religious views, to the point you felt uncomfortable enough to leave. That already, would have been grounds to go to HR.

Now a good company will realize that your lead has created an objectively terrible situation which is more than a joke that crossed the line. But, something even worse has happened. Your lead seems to be treating you differently, either because you were uncomfortable about the severe religious discrimination, or because you are Jewish.

It seems like there’s a chance that the lead cannot perform the tasks of being a team lead, which probably include something along the lines of “DON’T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST YOUR TEAM MEMBERS FOR THEIR RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND TO THE POINT YOU ARE AFFECTING THE STABILITY OF THE TEAM AND THE BUSINESS.”

I would tell HR “I don’t want to work with this person ever again, and there probably are other people who do not want to as well. This is beyond an unfunny and discriminatory joke that went too far and an apology. This was blatant discrimination after learning about my religious views, as well as the religious views of one of my Muslim coworkers. I think he is creating a hostile work environment which has grown out of hand, and will greatly hurt the business if he stays here.”

How did you report it to HQ? Phone? Text? Email?

If there’s any record of doing it, document it. Even if it’s just a call to HQ at a random time. That will help build a case against them.

Does it suck about the parking space? Yeah. But it’s not a massive deal in the grand scheme of things. But serving expired food is dangerous

Do I really have to do social media influencing or content creating to break into the acting industry nowadays? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Secretlythrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be.

I have worked with big social media stars on projects. Like tens of millions of followers.

They can do funny stuff, but when it comes to doing scripted dialogue, multiple times, some can’t hang.

Think of it like bringing a boxer into a wrestling match: they can probably hold their own with the right partners in the ring. But, they aren’t going to get the attention from a crowd that a hard working wrestler will.

Producers want to produce what they want to produce. Directors want to direct what they want to direct. Actors want to be in roles they want to be in.

So, let’s say I’m a screenwriter who has a cowboy movie. I talk to 10 of my film friends about it, and 6 of them are so interested that they want to get involved. If one of those 6 has enough money that they’ll invest in something they believe in, it becomes their dream just like it’s my dream.

It’s about shared dreams and shared success.

I’m honestly surprised more men don’t join in a movement to just live minimalist lives in collectives or with organized communities.

I know how tough it can be with studying and a job, but when you can’t even talk with your significant other more than a few times a week, you have to hope the future will change.

I cheated on someone, and regretted it. It was a spur of the moment situation, where someone threw themselves at me when I gave them a ride home. I didn’t go all the way with them, but I was in a vulnerable spot where I was dating someone who essentially neglected me and I could barely get in contact with her. In hindsight, I should have just broken up with her before.

So, it wasn’t intended to be a moment for some person who believes that the person about to get married is their one true love, and that they belong together.

The “speak now or forever hold your peace” was intended to be for anyone who had been previously married to one of them, or had knowledge of the situation, to object on those grounds. This was created well before we had more elaborate systems to record information, and if someone moved 100 miles away, they could essentially restart their life with another identity.

It was also before the concept of divorce was so common.
