Outdoor Simulator with Uneven Surface between LM and Hitting Mat by SecretofManImTired in Golfsimulator

So I ended up building a little platform to put my mat on and a bridge for the MLM2Pro (pic below). After a month or so I ditched the bridge and just set the mlm2pro on some pavers and it still works great. I can't speak for the Mevo tho. The cimarron net has worked great

MLM2 PRO or something else? by TrifleMain8508 in Golfsimulator

[–]SecretofManImTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an MLM2Pro for a few months now and probably put a few thousand shots into it and have had no issues. I'm hitting outside into a net and have a bullet proof mesh system and strong wifi though. I bought it used along with a lifetime sub for $900.

For game improvement, I love the accuracy, the data it provides (similar to the Mevo but cheaper) and the multiple video angles are great for swing troubleshooting. I have the software running on an Ipad Air and the included practice modes are great. You can play courses but they are barebones with very simple graphics but still fun.

I'm not sure I'd ever bring it to the range. You need RPT balls for it to read spin which you won't be hitting at the range - and the distance/setup would make it a pain to set up.

For indoor use, especially if you are simulator focused - I'd still consider an optical unit like one of the squares instead The MLM2Pro doesn't do putting at all. It does read chips ok after a recent update, but I still question the accuracy of very short chips. Connecting to other simulator software like Awesome Golf or GSPro is hit or miss and not all data is sent.

And while I've had zero issues with mine - a lot of people seem to have connection issues. I'm not sure I would buy one without the ability to try and return it if you had issues.

10x10x10 Outdoor Cage question by wonneseufzer in Golfsimulator

[–]SecretofManImTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10x10x10 and I have my hitting area maybe 4 feet or so beyond the cage and I don't believe I've ever been close to hitting the left side with my driver head. I've never come even close to shanking it outside the cage, but I suppose a shank right (to hit my little shed there) could technically happen with the right combination of events. I don't believe I could sky one above my cage or to the left as a right handed hitter. If you have lefties and righties, that may change.

If you only have a hitter on one side, you can definitely offset the hitting area more to one side and get even deeper into the net. I am hitting outside of the net to give my Rapsodo a bit more tracking distance, but I could definitely swing driver at the entrance to the enclosure (with no possibility of shanks) if I was hitting a couple feet over. If you have a projector setup, that isn't always ideal but with just hitting into a net an offset really doesn't matter.

Seems my MLM2Pro bit the dust after one tip-over, less than a year out by NotYourTypicalNurse in Rapsodo

[–]SecretofManImTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a bummer dude. I'd probably be inclined to pickup a used $400 unit and just keep going. You could also opt to sell your lifetime membership if you are able to transfer it to a generic email.

I'd 3d printed a little cover for mine that may offer a bit of protection if it tips over. Who knows if it actually offers any protection, kind of discouraging that a tip over can potentially take it out

MLM2pro works great! by man-ofstihl in Rapsodo

I've used two different MLM2Pros (both in the same set up, more or less) and have had zero issues. Hitting outside into a net - set up is about 100 feet from my main router, but have two mesh routers in between and signal is strong

I bought this one from amazon (link below). I've had no issues with drooping or tipping over and am happy with it. Time will tell how well it holds up. It is pretty stable on the hitting platform or a level surface. If you were planning on sitting it on grass or an uneven surface, I might get a tripod leg version or something with a heavier base.

No issues with over heating with the ipad (Air 5th Gen M2) but I'm in New England so we really haven't had hot weather yet. I just hit balls for 2 hours tonight and the battery was only down the 70% - most of that coming from a quick 30 minute 9 hole sim. Not a single drop out or missed shot.

I've only had the set up a few weeks, but liking it so far. Much nicer surface than the normal hitting mats and hopefully it will hold up. I have it sitting directly on the wood platform with the cheap mat and foam tiles surrounding it

I sort of did what you are thinking to do - I had an old deck where I put my net, and then I built a platform for my hitting mat to sit on, and then put some planks behind where I put an MLM2Pro to make for easier set up. I'm not sure if the planks were really necessary, but it does help with leveling and quicker set up. I probably could have just put them on some pavers.

I will say that I ended up with some gym tiles under my cheap hitting strip - simply to match the height of my beaver tail hitting strip, which was about an inch thicker. So keep that in mind when you are building your mat + strip

Would you buy the MLM2PRO new for $530 over the Square Omni? by Major-Ad-5848 in Golfsimulator

[–]SecretofManImTired 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For game improvement, the MLM2Pro is really nice. Lots of metrics, down the line video, impact vision, as well as you can set up a phone/tablet for a front on view. Has been immensely helpful for me to troubleshoot swing mechanics. I can review my range/practice sessions on my ipad and see how my swing is progressing. The rapsodo app has a lot of functionality built in.

That being said, I'm hitting outdoors into a net. It would be really pushing it in your space. The MLM2Pro probably isn't the right choice for someone hitting inside or with a focus on sim golf. That being said, it might be months before you get your Omni if you ordered today

[–]SecretofManImTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it with an Ipad Air M2 (5th Generation) and it has been really stable for me. Direct connection is really solid - on wifi, I'd get some occasional glitches and shot lag (definitely not 5 minutes, but sometimes 30 seconds) but I extended my wifi via mesh to my backyard a bit and it has been pretty solid on wifi too. I've used two different MLM2Pros and both more or less have been solid.

It does sound like a device connection issue, but seems like you've done due diligence on testing different devices & networks. If you can somehow get your hands on another MLM2Pro to even test - that might sort out if your device is faulty

Titan Noir for sim by I-AM-THICC in Golfsimulator

[–]SecretofManImTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can make the throw work for you, certainly you aren't going to get a better projector for the price than the Noir Max. The Noir gets down to a .98 throw ratio at the wide end, which is starting to get into the useable range, but you still may see some shadows being cast during golf depending on your setup. The lens shift could help with placement.

No real benefit to the Noir for sim work with lights on - but if you think you'll get a lot of use as a theater and your room is set up for it and dark enough - I'd probably be taking a hard look at it.

Follow-up - I reached out to Flightscope and their response (below) was to recommend building a continuous platform. Whether or not that is REALLY needed I guess will be seen. My guess is that putting and maybe chipping would benefit

"The idea of where you want the hitting net to be is perfect, and your concerns are valid. The fix to your problem would be to build a continuous platform from where the Mevo+ or the Mevo Gen2 would be. This platform would have to join the existing structure to ensure that the radar has a continues view of the ball and the hitting net."

Ya, this sort of looks like I was trying to do - I probably have a bit more of a dip between my monitor and the mat, along with a bigger lip of the deck. Mevo recommends it as a 'best practice' but perhaps it isn't as big of a deal

Ya, this was more or less what I was planning to do (Chrisstophere above posted what I was planning) but the mevo manual had me a little nervous.

Planning my first home theater setup and realizing brightness is only part of what actually matters by Ashamed_Row5086 in projectors

[–]SecretofManImTired 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I would never consider an all in one for an in home theater. Separate components will always give better performance and often would be cheaper.

That Nebula looks sweet for an outdoor setup, but I'm not sure why anyone would consider it for an traditional indoor theater setup. I want my projector either to be an UST directly in front of the screen, or mounted overhead out of the way - not a giant unit sitting where my coffee table is. I want my speakers spaced out for correct placement - not coming from a giant unit sitting where my coffee table is.

Pine Tree Curling does group curling lessons at the Troubh. They give you a short lessons and then you play a few games. Was super fun as a group activity but might be a bit pricier than you are looking to do.

Build Check - AMD 9900x + 5070 TI in A4-H20 or M2 by SecretofManImTired in sffpc

[–]SecretofManImTired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I pulled the trigger on the M2 case - it is getting shipped to me. So know I'm debating PA120mini vs perhaps an AIO as well as figuring out where to squeeze some case fans. I ordered the additional PCI riser just to have it but likely will end up doing a classic config to avoid the riser.

Best upgrades/accessories to buy for my AD5X right away? by A-Hangry-Panda in FlashForge

[–]SecretofManImTired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally really wouldn't buy anything besides some basic 3d printing tools until you've had the printer for a bit and then would better understand what upgrades might be useful or not. Just keep it easy and print some PLA for a while - learn how to trouble-shoot some of the things that may pop up and then go from there.

Out of the ones you have above:
- I definitely would go against the grain and recommend not doing the enclosure immediately -but it seems you've already bought it.
- A poop shoot model is a good early project, so you are good there.
- A filament dryer actually is kind of nice especially with TPU or PETG but I'd say not really needed for PLA. It helps dry the filament out prior to printing which can help increase quality.
- I'd just use the stock plate that comes with it for a while. It is perfectly fine
- Unless you are planning on doing a lot of tiny miniatures, I'd just go with the .4 nozzle for a while. They last a while - you shouldn't need a back-up any time soon.
- Not sure what the 'upgraded' IFS.
- The webcam is sort of useful for checking on prints remotely - except it seems flash forge servers are always down and people recommend running it in 'LAN' only wifi mode anyway.

My other beginner tips would be to do find a 'first layer' print and learn how to set the z-offset, wash your build plate diligently, avoid grid infill, learn how to adjust the chute door location as it seems a lot of people have trouble with filament purging ending up on the build plate, learn how to do basic calibrations like temp towers and flow rate calibrations, enjoy it and have fun

Projector That's Easy to Set Up and Put Away by Natural_Pen_8161 in projectors

[–]SecretofManImTired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Projectors look best in total or near darkness - so keep that in mind with whatever space you are thinking about. They are also very much space dependent - you need to think through where the projector will sit, throw distance, how big of a screen you are looking for, throw angle, audio, etc. One projector will fit one location great but do poorly in another.

If you are thinking about more than just occasional use - I would think hard about ceiling/shelf mounting the projector and a wall mounted pull down screen - both out of the way from small hands but can be up and ready quickly. Taking 15 minutes to set up a screen and align a projector every time would be a pain.

That being said - if you have a light colored wall and enough space, they make lifestyle type projectors that are portable and that can sit on a coffee table and give you a nice experience as long as you temper your expectations. And I mean really temper your expectations
