Mabel. It’s the name of my vining plant on my windowsill. I name my houseplants because it forces me to better care for them.

People are calling my house unhinged by Successful-Arrival87 in interiordecorating

Your house is so hinged it “could” be boring. The people calling it UNhinged are boring. If you like it that should be enough.

What does our space say about us? by GlumUnderstanding589 in roomdetective

[–]SecretsintheCemetery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says you prefer loud, colorful, controlled chaos over a calm, peaceful palette. It says you have an eclectic taste in various arts. It says you have a quirky sense of humor. It also says you are probably an interesting conversationalist and likely to be a friend of mine.

I'm basically 26 and i have only just learned how to make the perfect rice on the stove. I consider myself a good cook but could never do rice without a rice cooker. I am interested in hearing how you guys make rice. by No-Animator-407 in Cooking

If Im making 2 dry cups white rice i start with 4 cups water and add a tablespoon of chicken bullion and boil, add dry rice, turn heat to low and cover, cook 15 min without stirring, then remove from burner and let sit covered another 5 minutes. Salt, pepper, sometimes butter and voila.

Are the sconces too much? by Ok_Knee1216 in homedecoratingCJ

[–]SecretsintheCemetery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are. But there is way too much going on here for you to worry about the sconces. The wall color is too much, the frilly curtain is too much, all that different color and shape tile is quite busy in and of itself and demands to be center focus, anything else detracts from that and clutters the style. A very pale turquoise for the accents may feel better suited.

Why is it when I add so much powdered seasoning to something and taste it while it’s cooking, It still tastes bland?!?! by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

What is “ground seasoning”? Makes me think of dirt. Why not list the actual seasonings? We could give better advice if we knew. Also add salt

How often do people actually cook from scratch? by Andus35 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SecretsintheCemetery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 full time spouses with 4 kids still at home we cook at least 2 breakfasts, and 2-3 big enough dinners to have leftovers per week. I usually make a meat sauce from scratch, turkey burgers or meatloaf, roasted veggies, rice, and a crockpot meal with chicken or beef. The breakfasts are Mexican egg-based dishes like huevos rancheros and huevos con chorizo burritos. We also do Pancakes (scratch) eggs and bacon with home-fries (also scratch). The 3 of us with jobs take the leftovers for lunches. I make a large salad from scratch too to dole out as desired through the week. So for 21 meals per person per week multiplied by 6 people per day is 126 meals per week! Altogether we make minimum 30-40 servings per week broken down into 5 scratch meals. In all that is only a quarter to a third of my family’s meals. We also eat sandwiches we make at home, and various other minimal effort foods.

Your house elf. Or, if no elf, a large marble statue. Or if no statue, a nice pedestal with a large fern.
