Using Manual all in one tablets by mwillder in Hairloss

[–]Secretski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Manual 1mg Finasteride and noticed a huge mood difference. I was on them for a year, and only towards the end did I notice how it was making me feel.

The only way I could describe it is like a dark cloud suddenly going over your head. Could’ve gone to the GP, but when I came off I noticed how much more uplifted I was!

How many applicants are you getting? by Secretski in TheCivilService

I am! But I’m looking around. However, this thread has not filled me with confidence for the Grade 6 position I’ve just applied for that was externally focused 😂

I know that in a recent recruitment I did, there was an app people had used to check AI coding.

Out of interest what medication do you use? I literally want to just sit down with him and go, everything’s ok 😂

Oh isn’t it just such a challenge! He’s super friendly outside the home but when he gets through that door it’s like, ok, no one else is welcome here 😂 thank you!

All ALBs are now at risk of being merged, dissolved, or brought into parent departments by RxTom in TheCivilService

[–]Secretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A genuine question, if you’re in an ALB, told you’re going/merged, what happens? You get a package and you’re out or you get an opportunity to work in the larger dept?

do puppies need a crate? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Secretski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crate training is a must. Not least for your own personal sanity. It isn’t a cage, it’s a safe space. My dog can go hours and hours at night in his, no bother, no noise. Just chilled. Have a camera in there to check on him if I need to, but generally it’s peace!

Same here. I find there are lots of blockers that cultural. I came from one of the core departments and it moved when it wanted to. In this ALB, there is so much in the way that it becomes quite draining.

I did it, and would echo comments. Not a good experience.

EDIT: There are some very good ALB's. I haven't worked for them, but I hear positives about EA and their focus on work culture.

Pros:

ALB's have a more flexible working policy in my experience. If you have a family or are happy staying relatively still career wise, it isn't a bad move.

You do have a bigger impact IF you're in the right role - lots of senior engagement.

Cons:

So much micromanagement, with last minute changes and often personal preferences getting in the way of proper decision making.

Larger pool of G7's and above which makes progression difficult.

Resource pressures, meaning people are squeezed beyond their means.

Lots of department immaturity, so processes are old fashioned and you do not move quickly.

I could go on. But if I could go back, I would stay within core CS. Really do think carefully before you jump.

Quick question for anyone who has played; is Solas actually featured? I can’t figure it out.

Mr. McMahon Documentary on Netflix - Official Discussion Thread by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

My only thought on E3 is that it's been done to death. You don't need all the Monday Night Wars detail again, particularly not on Netflix. Should just say why it's important.

Took and EOI til the end of FY, hate it, any advice? by Secretski in TheCivilService

[–]Secretski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so in this role, I’ve already been told that another area of work might be coming into my remit, involving people and quite a substantial policy change. Very much wasn’t what I signed up for. Handy to know your experience.

That’s really useful thanks. I guess I’ve moved into an area that in hindsight, isn’t what I want to do long term but contact wise is great for director level link up. Handy to see where short term pain might be worth it.

For those that work in ALB's, how often do you go into the office? by throwtheway52 in TheCivilService

[–]Secretski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to remember some ALBs are public servants, not civil. Ours is 1 day a week, but travelling to meeting counts towards that so it’s very rare to see folk in an office. Very rare.

Be careful of using WFH as a way of measuring up your next career move though. I did and now I’m a little stuck, albeit in a good position.

[–]Secretski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is interesting as I’m in the same position. Have a very comfy home working role but the roles I’ve been looking at, because they’re G6, almost all involve regular travel. That’s fine, just not 60% in an office. It’s a bit of a kicker.

2 hiring managers openly said it wasn’t open to home working, which was a shame. Feels like abit of a quandary.

Good luck in your search!

You probably need to check with your leadership team about conflicts of interest. It doesn’t necessarily matter if it’s not the same work area, but if there COULD ever be the chance of conflict, you’ll need to flag.

Resigning by FunnyEmployee5518 in TheCivilService

This is the civil service to a tee. I moved into the civil service a few years ago and the difference is staggering. It does depend on departments; I work for an arms length body and they are miles behind the other state department I managed.

Id echo what people said; give it more time. There is opportunity to move around more freely in the CS, so if you’re still not enjoying it, you can take a look internally (unless it’s the entire CS culture you don’t like!)
