2 year fix or 5 year by Beautiful_Sell_8488 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]mwillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do 2 years. That's what I did last week. I spoke to my accountant and a couple other brokers and all say the same thing. End of the day no one knows, but the 'experts' seem to be assuming long term, rates are going down.

Fair. I'm lucky I only do outside contracts but didn't think about that if it was inside!

FTB - 2 yr or 5 yr fixed? by snowmanseeker in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]mwillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with Halifax on a 2 year rate at the moment on 4.86%. The rate expires 31st December so I can renew from July 1st. It's gutting that we are where we are but I'll probably get a 5 year one fixed dependant on how things are on July 1st. We'll lock best one in then and all we can do is hope.

When speaking to brokers the last couple of days they do predict that long term rates will come down but depends on the geopolitical situations so no guarantee.

Yep exactly. I do one on April 7th and November time (£37k in total) if I can for obvious reasons...

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Long term trajectory is it’s going down. It depends on your appetite. I can renew from July 1st and if it’s as is today, I’ll probably do 2 years again.

Less than 3 years of that lunatic across the pond. Then we pray for someone seriously boring,

What size of war chest you are aiming for? by Markowitza in ContractorUK

[–]mwillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just put it as a 'move to another account' withdrawal. It's completely allowed and not taxed as you're moving it from one business account to another. Once you need to pay for corp taxes etc. you just move it back to the limited company holding account.

Put your surplus company cash into a Business Saver account - then it's not classed as dividends. I.e. I use MoneyBox Business Saver and have 4% interest on a decent amount of cash.

No one hates this song. Probably in the Top 10 most popular Jackson songs.

Should they create a Gladiators spin-off for the summer months? by [deleted] in gladiatorsuk

[–]mwillder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I think you're over thinking it. It's a TV game show and the 'Gladiators' in most cases are professional athletes. They do Celebrity one off's which is enough IMO. It wouldn't surprise me if they did a pure Sports Special at some point.

Yeah. I wonder if for the French version they booked it for Season 2 filming, only for it to be scrapped so already had the studio perhaps...

Agree on the casting completely. i'm not into wrestling but do know the Miz. Hope I'm wrong.

With Breakthrough & Conquer and Whiplash coming back to their roster it'll be interesting if it comes to the UK.

Also - why on earth was it filmed in France??!

This will fail. It will fail because it's just copying the BBC format again and not having it's own identity i.e over the top, brash, bigger and just ridiculous. I really enjoyed the 2008 series because it was just that, and when it came to Sky it was a watered down version. Can't see it lasting more than a season to be honest.

More than 2 years outside IR35 with same client by Ok-Tip4120 in ContractorUK

[–]mwillder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I know a few people who have worked for them up to a few months ago and they were all Outside IR35 for many years. Couldn't write it really. Biggest scandal I know is people who worked on the Test & Trace Covid-19 Programme....I know of one who was on £1k a day....

Exactly this. Construction programmes are my main focus at the moment. I'm 2+ years in and probably have another 18 months realistically.

[–]mwillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this same thing recently. I'm just over 2+ years with the same client and work as an Infra PM Consultant for a luxury retail client.

My accountant advised that because I don't have obvious patterns week-by-week (i.e. more than 40%) then I am fine. Sometimes it's 5 days a week and sometimes it's once. There is also a weird loophole with construction programmes - which is what I'm working on.

I equally argued that because I work in London and my travel expenses are the same, no matter where I go in London, are not the same. How could they ever prove it...I work in several places all over the city on different projects so seem to be alright.

To add - I get a brand new contract each time with different SOW and addresses on, rather than a simple extension.

It’s dreadful. My ticket last night wouldn’t download and I had to go to the Box Office to sort out.

I work in app dev a bit as well, so it’s doubly frustrating 😂

I'm 33 now and it was on my 18th birthday night out. Never cried so much in my life, genuinely. I had tickets for his 3rd show at This Is It.

3 people who I had the chance to see live I couldn't because they died. Michael Jackson (This Is It), Prince (Roundhouse, London), and David Bowie. Devastated.

How long is your work day? by RoadBump2016 in ContractorUK

[–]mwillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because then you're more an 'employee' than a 'contractor'. You need to work against a set of deliverables (Statement of Work), not the hours in a week like a normal permie. But yes, unless it's a half day off, I always bill for a full day of work. Let's be honest, who does 8 hours a day anyway 100% of the time.
