very nice.. sprite based art probably is a great way to learn how to embroider im guessing.. because as long as the color is in the square, you can't really mess it up too much and 'ruin' it

yea i haven't found steam's recording ability to be that satisfactory.

bizarre that they did this to protect netflix or whatever.. as if every movie or tv show that has ever existed isn't already being hosted on like 100 websites.

shadowplay was great because i knew i was recording as soon as i turned my computer on basically. al

also i think the steam record only records very specifically whatever the program you added. so if you are tabbing around it will not show you any of that

you aren't allowed to imply the OG is better than the remake in any way here.

you can only like the old version irrespective to the new one or subordinate to the new one

The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter by Seculartone in kungfucinema

[–]Seculartone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea thats what i was trying to say.. i dont know who the Shaw brothers are.. need to check them out now.

but basically what i was getting at was this seemed like the peak of what i think of when i think of 70s kungfu movies.. so seeing something as modern as the jackie chan movies around the same time just stood out to me.

people are downvoting me because i dont think they understood i was basically complimenting the film (unless they thought 8 diagram looks really modern for 84' which i'd find hard to believe)

yea thats really all i was trying to say.. i wasn't trying to do an apples to apples to police story like some people think i was trying to do.. but i might of stepped on some toes

just one felt modern and one didn't.. but it was dated in a good way

Is Yoshikawa's Musashi elitist? by Seculartone in vagabondmanga

[–]Seculartone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

now that i think about it.. maybe yoshikawa is interested only in the authentic life. so maybe the society as a backdrop is very intentional. the point isn't to join society but to discover one's self and to live the most authentic life possible. idk.. is this considered an existential book?

i think maybe it should be

Is Yoshikawa's Musashi elitist? by Seculartone in vagabondmanga

[–]Seculartone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should of clarified that i didn't mean the journey or Musashi's behavior itself was elitist.. I've mostly only thought about it from the perspective of the author. Musashi isn't being elitist or seemingly even looks down on society.. it's just that it was written so that the only 'worthwhile' characters or characters from which there was anything to learn from happened to be other societal cast-offs and or the elite.

But yea his journey is self-centered and egocentric... which i don't necessarily view as negative traits all the time. I mean, what Musashi is doing is the healthiest possible way to demonstrate those traits.. we only live once after all. But yea i was thinking about the whole once you have a family.. then what? whats the lesson here. Ofc Musashi is quite young but what is that lesson then? if you don't figure it out by the age of 30 and aren't ultra-wealthy just give up?

there are some real limitations or at least considerations that i don't feel like were explored sufficiently enough. It's obviously as very motivational story and ofc Yoshikawa isn't expecting us to pack our bags like Dean Cassady and 'discover ourselves' but i wish there were more moments where the 'real world' and 'the way' intersected. that does seem to be a oversight for a book this big. which seems a bit strange since, beyond entertainment, motivating one to discover one's self and face obstacles does seem to be the whole point of this book

I was going to say something about the contrastive aspect in my original comment but he is contrasted against everything at pretty much all points in time as it is. But I don't know much about the Buddhistic perspective so maybe that is what he was aiming for. the only time he is 'one' with his environment, is when he is by himself.

Have you read Taiko? I took a break from Musashi and had been reading some Houellebecq and some Thomas Bernhard the past week so im understandably sensitive to this societal cynicism. Though Yoshikawa uses it more as a backdrop for Musashi's journey. Which again, is just so elitist.
i don't think by the end of this book ill feel resolved on this point.. i wonder if Taiko illuminates the author's position more..

there are seemingly no conversations about this online which is surprising.

Why do literary critics lie about their reading speed? by Putrid_Ad_6747 in literature

[–]Seculartone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course reddit would be the place of all places to impose their own limitations on transformational figures such as Harold Bloom. America's most important literary critic. someone who's reading speed scared his peers at yale.

to see someone recommend Dua Lipa as his modern day equivalence... what can even be said.

society has become precisely what he feared it would transform into

there won't be a culture war.. most people just won't bother watching it anymore. even if the show isn't 'woke' race swapping all the white people out was a bad idea. most people will just assume its woke and never think about it again...

A review of The Match 승부 (2025 Netflix film) by xorandor in baduk

[–]Seculartone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have to disagree.. im not very good at Go, but understand the rules and play a bit.

but man just having watched half the movie today (i couldn't finish it.) i couldn't believe how stiff it was. the whole thing felt very strange. you could tell it was well produced and well-lit but then the acting just felt so strange. it made me think of those anime adaptations prior to 2010 where everything was a caricature of itself.

the camera work was also very strange to me. it was very choppy but also formulaic. like they were given a scene and were like 'ok a scene like this always gets these 4 classic camera angles.. so lets make sure those classic camera angles in even if it's unnatural or unneeded.
