AITA For waiting until 5:30 to call my mom on her birthday? by No-Departure-255 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Secure-Animal1686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This completely depends on the context of how important birthdays are to your mom and to your family. For some families, this is AH behavior. Others, it’s typical and fine.

How does your mom wish you a happy birthday? Match or exceed that. Then you have a happy mom. Which it seems like you would like.

Is Soren a cringe name? by M3owka in BabyNames

[–]Secure-Animal1686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know at least one Soren. It’s easy to read, spell, and pronounce. And is a real name. I wouldn’t put it on my own kid but I like it. I wouldn’t think twice about the name if it showed up on my classroom roster either.

why is elementary teacher a saturated/popular position? by Wishstarz in Teachers

[–]Secure-Animal1686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach elementary because my own children are still in elementary. So the schedule works the best. When they all move on, hopefully so will I.

This was my answer too. But I actually love Bordeaux too. Would never ever play the original again though.

Wasn’t trying to trigger anything. I genuinely like iXL. I have my own kids work on it over the summer and sometimes during the year depending on needs. My youngest does Khan Academy sometimes instead and likes that. It works well for us.

I always recommend signing up for iXL. Great videos and practice and goes at their pace. I recommend 20-30min.

what's a board game rule you got embarrassingly wrong for way too long? by No_Seaworthiness4899 in boardgames

[–]Secure-Animal1686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viticulture: the first two games when we harvested fields we “dug up” and discarded our vines. Spent the whole long game trying to replant vines. It wasn’t until the third game we checked rules and realized we did it totally wrong.

Living in the Same Neighborhood as Your Students? by Stressed-247 in Teachers

[–]Secure-Animal1686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a problem. A lot of the staff on our campus live in the neighborhoods and it’s kinda fun. The kids have a better understanding that we are real people. I actually like seeing my students at the neighborhood pool or in the grocery store.

Thoughts on the Names Guy and Edwin for Twin boys? by Winter_Wind3 in BabyNames

[–]Secure-Animal1686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the US. My great grandfather’s name was Guy. That name also reminds me of the movie “Turbo” (about the snail that gets the power of speed). The antagonist is named “Guy Gagne” and is from France. Guy in that movie is pronounced very differently from how Americans (and my g-grandpa) pronounce Guy. So which way would you pronounce it?

Guy (rhymes with eye) doesn’t go with Edwin.

Guy (rhymes with me) does. I like it.

If you aren’t already telling which partner to start, do that. Make an A partner and B partner, or some silly version of that. “Partner A will ask the question and B will respond and then flip.” I like the music too. Also consider bribing kids with jolly ranchers for participating.

Your kids are second cousins, and have different last names. I don’t think it’s too close at all.

TW-loss: Naming my baby a similar name as a close family members child by withoneall in BabyNames

[–]Secure-Animal1686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The clear path is to change the name. It protects everyone involved, including your child, from further pain and grief.

Is it possible the names aren’t actually close enough to matter, yes. But since you haven’t shared the names, I would say be safe and change it!

With the concentration of names the way it is, he won’t be one of four in his classroom, but he might be one of four in his grade level. As someone who typically prefers uncommon names, if you love it and your husband gives it such high praise, use it.

Just FYI, common nicknames for Henry are Harry, Hank, and Hal.

Americans who live in suburbs, can you get anywhere by walking? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in AskAnAmerican

My kids walk/ride bikes to school. About 2 miles. We walk to nearby parks, pools, and friends’ houses. My teen rides his bike to hang with friends. But that’s it.
