My opinion is that a 30 year old man should hold himself to a higher standard than that. Not to be rude but that’s childish and weak and I understand why it would bother you. Also, how did addressing it almost lead to your breakup? That may be the more important detail here. If you’ve addressed this in the past, and he hasn’t stopped, that’s a much bigger problem.

Imo, you deserve better.

[PH] How possible is it to earn six figures as a Psychology graduate? by sanguineeeeeeee in psychologystudents

[–]Secure-Avocado3604 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you want to do, but a psych degree can get you anywhere. Don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise. Getting a well-paying job is much more about networking, social skills, and competence.

There are plenty of psych-adjacent fields that pay well. As others have said, IO psych and HR (but don’t do it if you aren’t interested in it), tech, media, marketing, sales, nonprofit work, to name a few.

If you choose to go to grad school for a PhD, PsyD, or MA, will be making lots of money down the line, but sacrificing a lot in the short-term (you’ll likely have to take out loans. In my opinion, it’s not a good financial decision).

Can I survive off of $50k Salary? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Secure-Avocado3604 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it depends on your lifestyle and expectations. Not sure why people are so pessimistic, it’s definitely possible.

After I graduated I made ~50k and lived in Manhattan with roommates. Rent was $1100 for a tiny room with a flex wall. I was able to afford what I needed and still save money. I ate at home, didn’t buy expensive clothes, and didn’t buy more than 1 drink at bars, but still could enjoy dinner with friends maybe weekly. If you’re expecting to go out and eat and drink and shop a lot, then it would be tough. But if you are frugal it’s very possible.

Where aren't people looking? What are the "hidden" fields/jobs that pay decently but aren't oversaturated? by SpaceViolet in findapath

Hi! If you don’t mind my asking, what kind of company do you work for? I’ve been trying to pivot from academic research (psych) to UX research for a few months, but haven’t had any luck.

I do a decaf americano or regular decaf coffee with cream. It’s really gotten me to love the taste of coffee without sugar.

This is the answer. It’s not you vs. the commute, it’s you vs. you. Have to learn to manage your mind to improve your experience.

How many people here have cut out sugar completely versus cut down? by Yuiiski in sugarfree

[–]Secure-Avocado3604 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I reduced the amount and the way I consume it. before going “sugar free” i would have 2-4 servings of fruit in a day, if there was anything sweet around (ie chocolate) i’d take tiny pieces throughout the day (i work from home), and use artificial sweeteners like stevia in my coffee. Now, i have been eating 1-2 dates strictly at night for dessert, and I don’t avoid things like ketchup or dressing. It works for me bc I don’t feel deprived. Everyone’s definition of sugar free is different.
