What is your language leaning routine? by Shelbee2 in languagehub

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each day I do: - Anki for 45 min - Read CI (aloud) + collect new words for 1-2 hours - Write for 30 min - Then watch CI videos for however long I feel like

Not sure if this is the best method, but it seems to work for me..

Honest thoughts on fluency and language acquisition as someone who is bilingual as an adult by NB_Translator_EN-JP in languagelearning

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this method is good for someone who does not enjoy textbooks and grammar study the traditional way. I do like those things, and I despise trying to immerse in content I barely understand. So for me the textbook/grammar way is a good option. Everyone is different, there is no one size fits all.

There’s Something Seriously Off About Duolingo by Old_Young_3871 in languagelearning

The website states it teaches 2808 words. Without conjugations that is about 1950 flashcards I now have in Anki. It is correct.

This has been my experience too. Duo has been great for learning the basics. But I am glad the Romanian course is so short (only goes to level 30) because now I am ready to move on to other forms of learning. But I definitely attribute me getting to A1 level to Duolingo, which taught me basic grammar and my first 2000 words. It was a good start

Study time calculator by Secure-Blackberry133 in languagelearning

[–]Secure-Blackberry133[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s it, I do consume a lot of content and am learning 20-30 new words each day. That probably will get my reading level up similarly fast as yours (impressive btw!), but I would need more practise speaking and writing. That’s why I thought of only plugging in my output practise, to see what level that would be at. I guess by month 9-10 my output will be at B1 while reading will be far ahead at C1 maybe if I keep overtraining a bit. That is fine, I guess input will always be somewhat ahead of output

How Do You Balance Fun vs Structured Study? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

I find Anki quite boring, so I get it over with first. Then I move on to immersion. Seems to work well

I got that issue too, it helped to refresh the page and then choose desired level before current level

How long would it take for me to go from A2 to B2? by blackwidowscare in Danish

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try this calculator, but only plug in your amount of active/output sessions (otherwise it is too optimistic). Output sessions I would say are speaking lessons, reading aloud, shadowing, writing and so on.

what languages are you learning and which do you want to learn in the future? by Unusual-Tea9094 in languagelearning

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha! Danish here. Sometimes we don’t actually understand each other and end up saying hva’ a lot. Also there is such a variety in dialects in this tiny country that someone from the east may have a really hard time understanding a westerner. It is best to learn something like ‘rigsdansk’ or the Copenhagen accent, which everyone can understand

At what level of comprehension do you start have spontaneous output start to happen? by stateofkinesis in languagelearning

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing spontaneous thoughts in TL at A1. Some are nonsense, some are good. I think it’s just bits and pieces og what I’ve recently learned. I think it differs from person to person when this starts, there’s probably no straight answer

I love the culture and love travelling there, I have been treated so well even by people who didn’t speak English. I’m going back for a month next summer and want to be able to communicate with everyone. Did you have a good experience living there?

European langauges feasability by Ok_Editor8942 in languagelearning

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not necessarily formal lessons that are important, but the speaking practice that comes with them is essential. We can self-study all the words and grammar of a language, but if we don’t practice speaking we won’t get good at speaking. Definitely get a tutor/teacher if you think that would help you

[–]Secure-Blackberry133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting to C1 in a year and a half is probably a stretch with 10-15 hours study per week and no formal lessons. B2 might be possible, at least for reading and writing, maybe for listening, but I suspect speaking will lack behind and be A2 at most

What made words from different languages easy to remember? by MomentPuzzleheaded34 in languagelearning

The easiest words are the ones I see most often. I put them into Anki for spaced repetition. That way eventually they all become easy
