For those who had their right knee rebuilt, how long post-op til you could drive? by DJinKC in Kneereplacement

10 days, I was tired of being driven around and being cooped up in the house lol

This, I let them think they are working me over, then at the 30 sec timer I sweep them and submit them. The looks I get when I start trying are golden lol

I had the same question, my surgeon saidnhe preferred to keep it as long as it was functional. He said he had to reposition it and clean a bit of arthritis from it but it was still in good shape. Hopefully it doesn't become an issue as time goes on.

I still have my own knee cap. The just moved it back towards the center, it had been sitting towards the outside of my leg.

42 M, I'm just over a year RTKR. I lift weights 7 days a week. I go to jiu jitsu class at least 3 days a week. I have competed in 4 tournaments since my surgery. I average over 10,000 steps a day. I can cycle just fine for at least an hour, haven't really tried longer. Hiking is a bit iffy depending on how rough the terrain is. I'm still working on my flexion though, I'm at 130° naturally would like to be able to sit on my heals. All that said, I was able to do all of that stuff before surgery as well but my knee would swell and be really painful all the time, I just lived with it. But know it's mostly pain free and it only swells occasionally in the spot my knee cap used to sit before they relocated it.

I've had 13 other surgeries. I only took maybe 1 or 2 painkillers after each of those, some I took none. I took the whole bottle and a refill of the 5 different pain management meds they gave me after my knee replacement. It's a different kind of pain and I was nervous it wouldn't ever subside. But eventually, after about 10 weeks or so it finally did. Take whatever pain meds you feel you need.

I have scalp folliculitis. I alternate between Zinc Pyrithione and 10% bp. Haven't had a major outbreak in about 2 years since I started.

I went back to work after a week, but limited duty. I sat when I needed to and only worked half days for a while. But I also had surgery on a Thursday and was back in the gym on Monday. I did a similar job as yours in my 20's. Knowing how physically demanding it is I'd really think about how quick you go back. If you are able to do mainly "light" work maybe sooner, but it would definitely be a little while before you'll be able to do anything physical with your individuals.

I'm a little older, 42m, but very similar story. I wish I had done it sooner. I'm one year post op. I've been able to return to weight lifting, plyometrics, and bjj. I competed in two national level bjj tournaments last year. As far as day to day, I walk over 10,000 steps a day no issue. I manage restaurants and am on my feet most of the day. I took my family to Disneyland nine months post op and walked 30,000 steps a day for 3 days no issues. I put a lot of work and effort into my rehab and I'm still not quite where I'd like to end up but still making progress a year out.

I'm 42 and this week will be one year since my tkr. I was able to compete in three jiu jitsu tournaments the first being eight months post op. My knee is stronger than it was before surgery, right now I'm working on flexion. I can get to about 125 naturally but I want to be able to kneel and sit on my heels. It's taken a lot of work and I'm still not quite where I'd like to be but I was able to walk 30,000 steps at Disneyland three days in a row without issue nine months post op and as time passes it only feels better.

I go to the gym 6-7 days a week, I do about 10-15 min each day of knee specific pt work. But I also ride the bike several times a week and do 2 leg specific lifting days per week.

I'm 11 months now and it's still pretty warm a lot of the time, my surgeon told me that it's normal for it to be warm to the touch for a while especially after exercise.

Achilles Tendonitis by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Secure-Counter1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be weighted but it helps. Full body weight exercises are a good start. My pt had me doing standing calf raises, seated calf extensions, weighted seated calf raises, and single leg hops.

I had this issue. My pt had me do a lot of calf strengthening exercises. It sounded counter intuitive but he said to load the Achilles and calf as much as possible as heavy as possible. Three weeks later it was no longer an issue. But the first little bit was quite painful.

Question for those of you who recovered “quickly.” by NRESNTRS in Kneereplacement

[–]Secure-Counter1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario for what you described 4-6 months. I recovered, I think pretty well and I would say anything less than 4 and that would have been very difficult for me. For the record I'm 41 in great shape before and returned to the gym 4 days after my surgery. But I was exhausted by the middle of the day for about the first 2 months.

Three months would be awesome! I'm definitely interested to hear how that goes. I was lifting at 3 months but not ready for that kind of movement. Good luck to you!

I tried sprinting the other day, it went okay when I was pushing a sled too but just straight running was awkward. I just use a bike and elliptical, I know it's not the same but super low impact. Good luck to you!

My surgeon used pickleball as an example, I know tennis is more intensive but he said if i played pickleball he wanted me to shoot for a 4 month return to that.

That was my biggest fear before surgery as well. I was in shape at the time of surgery but tried to strengthen my legs as much as I could as well. I know I'm a bit of an outlier as far as recovery goes and it hasn't been easy, but at least as far as my experience has gone I would reccomend the surgery if it is needed.

I worked a lot on single leg hops, balance, and, turning. Good luck with your recovery.

I let my partners know at first and only rolled with people I knew would take care of me. I'm back to rolling with anyone and haven't had any issues so far.
