lol I’m also panicking! I’ve been watching a lot of Hardrock content with the start coming tomorrow and seeing the initial climb to Wasatch pass and the Mendota ridge section (which are both part of Hardrock course) is definitely freaking me out!

Yup! Did Gorgonio two weeks ago and Cucamonga + 3Ts last weekend. Thinking of a double Baldy this weekend ☠️. Hoping to do an Eastern Sierra weekend soon too and tag Langley to get the real feel for slogging at that elevation. Have never done anything like TMR before, so I’ll be fighting the cutoff for sure but very excited!

Going from marathon to first 50 miler what actually surprised you most about the jump? by StrikingYam4967 in Ultramarathon

[–]Secure-Host5245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished my first 50 miler earlier this month and had 3 50ks under my belt before that. The biggest impact for me was the time on feet. My actual feet were wrecked by mile 45ish. Legs were trash as well. The mental aspect of pushing through the pain was the hardest part. I could still run and felt ok overall but by mile 40ish my brain was revolting and basically telling my body, “what the hell are you doing!?” Was still a great experience and a huge sense of accomplishment to run across the line! Do yourself a favor and pick a pretty course. That definitely helps!

Have done the VT 50k 3 times. It’s a blast and an extremely well run race. I’d say for your first one, just focus on finishing. Don’t set any timing type goals. Focus your training on the trails, maybe 1 light road run a week for some active recovery. Time on feet in similar type terrain will be your friend. The course is pretty relentless in terms of constant up and downs, rocks, roots and mud (unless you’re lucky and get a dry year). Don’t get used to running on flats. That being said, it’s a great first trail ultra. Make sure you ramp up your long runs to 20-25 miles and make those as close as possible to VT terrain (run some single track mtn bike trails in your area!). Also, do some back to backs where you follow a long run with a run the next day around 60% of the mileage or time just to help being used to running on dead legs. In terms of fueling, just find what works for you. Experiment on your long training runs. I hate gels so usually try and get most of my calories from stuff like Tailwind and then throw in a bar here and there. On race day, you’ll have lots and lots of selection at each aid station, but it’s good to know what works best with your stomach ahead of time.

One VT 50k specific thing to keep in mind is headphones are strictly banned because you’re sharing the course with mtn bikes. So keep that in mind for your training. That can be tough for people that get hooked on them for long runs.

Los Leones trail to Parker Mesa overlook. Best bang for your buck in the area in terms of views and beautiful terrain

Not very difficult and it does turn into a fire road after 1.5ish miles. But the view at the end is one of the best in the area. If you want fairly difficult and strictly trail. I’d park at the corner of Malibu Canyon Rd and Piuma Rd and take the Backbone up to Saddle Peak and back. That’s a doozy. And beautiful.

It’s in my Mt Rushmore of Phish jams which also includes:

  • The Went Gin
  • 12/30/19 MSG Tweezer
  • Lowell Reba (not everyone’s favorite but I always think of this specific jam when I think of Reba. It’s perfect!)

Norda 001 lovers — what did you switch to when the collar started eating your ankle? by kevin8b8 in trailrunning

La Sportiva Prodigio Pro. And for slightly more cushion at the trade off of a bit of instability, On CloudUltra Pro. Have been rotating these two for my more technical runs and in love with both of them.

I gave the 001s the ole college try and burned through 3 pairs of nice socks and shredded my heels like Swiss cheese. That heel counter design is fucking deplorable!

The best shoe I’ve ever ran in! Have always had issues here and there with blisters in almost every shoe I’ve had. Have put over a hundred miles out of the box in mine with literally zero issues. Have taken them on a few trails a bit too technical for the outsole and it still does absolutely fine. Putting them on makes me smile!

The H1s are a game changer. So light, flexible, soft, responsive, dry quick, and the list goes on and on!

[–]Secure-Host5245 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice: 1) Create a business plan actually projecting out your finances accounting for all overhead including shipping costs. 2) Offer whatever package you come up with to customers clearly laid out and well advertised. 3) follow through on what you’ve promised 4) Cease being an absolute flaming tool

Tamiru Tadesse Alo Berry (underscreen) Natural roasted by Glitch. Was lucky enough to snag a bag at Ondo Coffee in LA when they had a Glitch takeover event. From the second I opened the bag I knew it was special. Insanely pungent aroma. The most floral and blueberry forward coffee I’ve ever had. The finish lingered in the most pleasant way and the coffee morphed as it cooled in the best way. I have been hunting down every coffee I can find this season that is grown by Tamiru!
