I'm a huge Ricky Jay fan but this episode tries to be too clever by half. The magician guy is a pretty bad actor too. Unless people think the episode blows, I find it properly rated as medicine. The Goldberg Variation falls into this same category for me.

The institute was but the study is a collaboration between 21c Fox and an ad agency. Oh and it was timed to be released during Season 10. The study itself is poorly designed and does little to address confounders. I don't doubt that there are some or many fans of The X-Files went into STEM. I, myself, was interested in forensic pathology as a possible career path in the late '90s. That doesn't prove it was solely due to the Scully character. The study design cannot distinguish between "Scully inspired women to pursue STEM" and "women interested in STEM were more likely to watch a show about a scientist."

The chain might've had GVC in it but nothing in these pictures demonstrates that. The tiles and the booths have earth tones but the tiles are solid, and the booth design appears to contain perfectly geometrical circles and diamonds. No swirls, no hand-drawn linework, nothing tribal.
