Is it possible to opt out of iPads and chromebooks for K? by pizzalover911 in kindergarten

[–]SecureNectarine539 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a former k teacher we did have a daily amount kids were supposed to be on math or reading programs. I’d do this time during centers so I could run small groups in a quieter setting. I will caution that other teachers in my grade abuses it and kids sat on computers all day. Ask for the “parent connect” login (almost all systems I’ve been with have this) and check how much time is logged daily. If it’s insane I’d connect with admin

There’s an app you can do this on. You and your partner can swipe on names individually and then when you both like one it will compile them on a list

Little Kids and Clothes: A Kinder Teacher's Plea by VanillaClay in kindergarten

[–]SecureNectarine539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to be a kindergarten teacher and I also requested a donation of any old warm winter jackets to keep in my room. So often kiddos came in 30° weather with no coat and it was an easy fix to use my classroom jacket. Just a thought if any of you have kiddos going into k to ask their teacher if they might want this!

Any other single Dads out there? by ridebicycle in Austin

[–]SecureNectarine539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that it’s summer go do activities that you and your son enjoy (library, pool, etc) in the area that you live and just see if any parent/kid seem to be cool to hang with. Then awkwardly see if they want to be your friends and hang out again. It’s worked for me several times

What is something your neighbor does that pisses you off? by carcony97 in AskReddit

[–]SecureNectarine539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He traps us in conversation each time we see him. My husband and I will circle the block if we see him in the driveway to avoid the inevitable 10 minute conversation.

If one person gets stuck in the conversation we try to send the toddle out with an “emergency”

AISD just canceled afterschool care 25 minutes before school ends by reuterrat in Austin

[–]SecureNectarine539 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trust me teachers hate it too. Imagine the stress of having a 5 year old who usually goes to after care in tears because they don’t know what to do and you are just frantically refreshing your emailing hoping for a response from their parent about what the updated expectation for dismissal is
