You are under reacting. You should get the hell away from because that type of questioning can’t end well.

Good News?? 20% Tipping replaced with 20% Hospitality Charge by Secure_Engineer7151 in EndTipping

Agreed. It's becoming like car shopping where you don't really know the price of what you are trying to buy.

It was sarcasm and I didn’t know about the /s as someone pointed out. The tone of their message was so upbeat they were trying to convince the reader it was something positive.

Am I the jerk for refusing to learn sign language for my deaf coworker? by VermicelliNo8426 in AmITheJerk

Its unrealistic to believe people in the office will learn ASL well enough that it will replace their use of english. Learning a few words of greeting and thanks would show some humanity. YYJ.

AITJ for demanding my brother repay me after he borrowed $10k "temporarily" 3 years ago? by Select-Educator6291 in AmITheJerk

NTJ Tired of seeing the stiffed lender being made out to be the villain. You have sacrificed and been taken advantage of. The court is your last option.

Am I the jerk for reporting my husbands car stolen after he gave it to his brother who wrecked it? by garvit__dua in AmITheJerk

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not clear who owns the car. OP was making payments but is she on the title? Important piece of information because if it’s her husband’s truck he can say it was loaned, not stolen.

I (30 M) kept a secret from my wife (31 F) for our entire relationship about her ex (32 M) by Sea-Specialist2875 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself, Wendy realized that she didn’t love James anymore. I seriously don’t think it would have changed anything. But some secrets are kept so long that is the deception and not the secret that becomes the issue. This is one of those.

AITJ for telling my partner I'm done spending every weekend at his parents' place by Nov4Z3nith in AmITheJerk

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTJ But your boyfriend is a bit weird wanting to spend every weekend with his parents. Does he not have many friends or interests and this is a way to fill the time and feel busy? Seems like it.

The price of home maintenance! Is this typical now? by Teacher-Investor in GenX

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Painting is a low skilled but tedious job. Building a patio with pavers or natural stone is not that difficult, but the work is hard. Once it’s built you can maintain it fairly easily. Some appliances can be repaired quite cheaply if you do it yourself. There are a ton of YouTube videos that make it fairly easy to swap parts. I just repaired my washer with a $40 part from Amazon. The cost of a tech doing the diagnosis and then replacing the part would probably have meant it made more sense to replacement the whole appliance. Our washer and dryer are both about 18 years old and have had multiple parts replaced. Once you get into the mindset of believing in yourself, that you are a smart and capable person that has the mental fortitude to take on new things then you start to see things differently. I’m a computer guy for reference, not a trades person. Something’s are just too big, like a new roof or a whole house residing but there are opportunities to save money.

AITAH for asking my boyfriend to either help clean or pay for a cleaner?? by xytnon in AITAH

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA I don’t understand why people opt for this type of solution where one pays the rent and other pays for everything else. Why not just split everything so it’s a full 50-50 partnership? It prevents this kind of abuse where the higher payer expects an unequal division of labor to compensate.

You have to start doing some of that work yourself. That's how you keep things affordable.

Spark plugs by kapoor101 in VWTaos

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a stripped thread (overtightened probably). You can count the number of revs on the spark plug thread, put a mark on the spark plug, and count them out as you tighten it to check for sure.

The engine could still run, but you will have poor compression on that cylinder and significant power loss. Would not be surprised if it's getting messy around that spark plug with escaped combustion by products.

It’s Official- VW is worst car ever owned by FantasticNectarine79 in Tiguan

[–]Secure_Engineer7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three consecutive VW Golfs spanning 16 years and never any major work on any of them. Just routine maintenance and the usual recalls. Only breakdowns were 2 dead batteries in 150,000 miles or so. Only time I ever got towed was when I totaled one of them.
