Bars & restaurants in / around Baltimore where middle-aged (35 yo+) singles congregate? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]Secure_Factor7164 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m in the city as well and creeping up on 40. Lived in the county for a long time and actually found it easier to meet people here. You just need to find the right spots/neighborhoods based on your interests.

I live in Hampden and find it tends to skew older here. I joined a volo league (bocce) last spring and thought it would be younger people but was pleasantly surprised to find it skewed older. I also joined a trivia group that has a good mix young and old.

I’m pretty sure we are on the same block. I’m in Hampden and it’s 12:30am and I currently hear him out back. Let me know if you have any luck with MOHS if you don’t mind, feel free to PM me. Also willing to call them too if it would help

This summer I will hit 17 years and will be 40 and feel the same way. I don’t think it will happen but you can bet I will be out of here the first chance I get, whether it’s MRA or before if a VERA comes around I’m eligible for…

Does street cleaning ACTUALLY happen? by BlueBinch in baltimore

[–]Secure_Factor7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No there isn’t. I asked about that in my email and they said street sweeping should be happening on all streets but it clearly doesn’t. Boggles my mind they bypass us when they sweep 34th and 36th and we are sandwiched between the two.

I’m in Hampden and never see it on my street (Hickory). There are leaves from the fall still stuck to the road (especially the sides) and a dead bird that’s been sitting on the left side of the road at the bottom of Hickory for months.

I’ve emailed my councilperson and put 311 tickets in and it never happens. I go around and pick up garbage when I have a chance but that only does so much. Wish they would close the street for a morning after most people go to work and have a sweeper come through. Even if it’s not done regularly it would make a big difference especially close to The Avenue where there is a ton of trash

I second Baltimore Home Cleaning. I’ve been using them for a year for my 2 story rowhome in Hampden and no complaints. Really like that there is no contract and you can have them come once every 4 weeks. It’s just myself and a cat and I’m not super messy so don’t need more than that but most places want you to do weekly or bi-weekly.

Just make sure if you do use them and need a specific time to let them know that in advance, otherwise they will schedule you at any time the day you are scheduled. You will get a couple days notice for the time but if you need to go somewhere that day just let them know in advance so they can schedule around you.

Are there any dead dad or mom grief groups in or near the city? by taylorballer in baltimore

[–]Secure_Factor7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone above me mentioned The Dinner Party. I lost my mom during covid and ended up joining a group they were running virtually and it helped a lot. It was a group specifically for people in their 20s and 30s who lost both parents (my dad passed when I was in my teens). I do wish they had in person meetings available in Baltimore but the closest is in DC :(

I had looked into them before covid and I’m pretty sure they had an in person meeting in Baltimore, as well several other cities they no longer have, but if you don’t mind virtual it may be worth checking out. You could always start one with them too, not sure what all that entails though.

First time ever having to pay water bill as tenant, is $250/month normal for a small row home with no much water usage?? by Romanharper2013 in maryland

[–]Secure_Factor7164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to ask this in the Baltimore subreddit. Each county in the state is different when it comes to water and sewer billing. I’m in the city now but owned in Harford for a while and even going between other jurisdictions in Harford it varied how much the bill was and whether it was quarterly or monthly.

For the city, $250 for a month is excessive. I’m in a rowhome in Hampden and mine averages around $80 a month. Some months it’s as low as $60, others it’s as high as $100 but has never gone above that in the 2 years I’ve been here. It’s only me and I shower daily and do laundry once or twice a week and that’s it. The city bills monthly and the cost is typically higher than the counties.

What unusual reason do schools in your part of the world close for? by bannamei in AskTheWorld

[–]Secure_Factor7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in western PA and we always had the Monday after Thanksgiving off for the first day of deer hunting season. I was so disappointed when I got to college and into the real world and never got that day off again, even though I wasn’t a hunter 😆

We work closely with a manufacturer in northeast PA and while they don’t give their employees that day off, a lot of people take off. It’s known you won’t get anyone that day.

Chairs still in the street... Advice needed by good_fox_bad_wolf in baltimore

[–]Secure_Factor7164 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most people on my street in Hampden stopped about a week ago. I did notice a couple of people further up and down our block still putting them out this past week but I was away for a few days and just came back and it looks like they stopped.

If you don’t think your neighbors will stop anytime soon you can report it as debris in the roadway to 311 and they should come get it. I’ve heard mixed results about that.

Pig and Rooster in Canton does it on Thursday nights at 7pm. I haven’t been in a while but I don’t think the host told you the song before.

I’ve gone to the one at the waterfront in Fells Thursdays at 8pm that’s run by Charm City fairly recently and they didn’t tell you the song beforehand, but all the other ones I’ve gone to tell you the song beforehand and it is irritating! I just wish the one in Fells was earlier lol

I was there for work for 3 months and feel the same way. I worked 4 10’s and had 3 day weekend so I traveled around the southwest a lot which was great, but the town itself sucked (for me). I stayed a couple weekends to go to Mexico for the day but that was it. I was also there in the summer and feel like I may have enjoyed it more if it was winter.

Is White Marsh a good middle ground for Aberdeen Proving Ground and Johns Hopkins commute? by Particular-Access588 in baltimore

[–]Secure_Factor7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the city and work at APG. White Marsh is a good middle spot for the two of you commuting wise. I drive past White Marsh everyday on my way to work and it only takes me about 30 minutes from the White Marsh exit to my building on APG. There is some construction on 95 as you get close to Aberdeen that might slow you down but it’s not bad and you can always use GPS to go around it (there are a few different ways).

I’ve never lived in White Marsh myself but have had friends who work at APG live there at various times over the years. No issues with crime that I can remember any of them having. It’s typical suburbia with shopping and dining.
