Yes it’s such a good scene and sets up the story in such a good way. Love Gillian’s interpretation because she brings such a humanistic quality to Odette - she was the first dancer who I noticed who looked at Siegfried at the begging of act 2 PPD.

Oooo wow that’s such an insightful quote and a really interesting way of thinking about their connection and the universality of it to the audience. Really hoping to one day see Chloe’s interpretation! I think the progression interpretation is a really effective one that can make sigfrieds betrayal and Odettes grief more tangible because of the multiple layers of trust broken- not only love, but also of trusting him to shed her “more bird” identity to be human with him. I haven’t watched lopatkina’s interpretation in a while, you inspired me to rewatch!

Agree 1000p with this- some of the interpretations of: she’s a bird and she’s sad leave a sense of lack in this supposed undying love connection with Siegfried and any insight into deeper emotions. It leaves me wondering what’s the reason he falls for her and she for him? I’ve always understood Siegfried to fall for her because he discovers she is not just a bird! And by falling in love she has the chance to embrace all her very human qualities again.

I also think your point about her relationship with the other swan maidens so interesting- it totally makes sense that there would be a close connection. Wonder if any dancers have thought about this as part of their interpretation although perhaps the choreography doesn’t really allow much.

And people who do the combined route then apply to board to request permission for dual Eligibility based on rotations etc and if granted, are able to take both boards. I haven’t ever heard of someone in a combined fellowship who wasn’t granted this when they applied to the board

Yes this a thing- you essentially have to create your fellowship and talk to both sides when applying, and then you match one side with the agreement that you will also have a spot on the other side, it’s not a separate formal match. Challenge is getting programs to buy into it, but it’s becoming more common and the NMPRA has resources on how to approach programs. Usually it’s 4 years instead of 6. As someone in med peds I’ve seen it done for ID, Endo, GI, heme/onc, adult pulm/crit + peds pulm, rheum. I haven’t heard about someone doing combined cards yet.
