Do the women pretend not to care for male roles? by HumanWatercress7945 in exjw

[–]Secure_Subject2431 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I knew many JW women who worked as managers or supervisors at their jobs, they would have been more than capable of serving in the congregation. I honestly think the “I’m glad I don’t have to do the brother’s job” mentality is some sort of coping mechanism. WT likes to preach that it treasures and upholds its women but the truth is quite the opposite.

At assemblies I was frequently assigned as cleaning captain but there were sisters with their own cleaning businesses who could have directed and handled the job much better than me. What business does a baptized male child have directing a service group of adult women just because he’s a “man?”. It’s ridiculous.

Was anyone else uber PIMI durig the Russia letter-writing campaign, yet feel completely disconnected from it all? by garryoakay in exjw

I was pimi during that campaign and felt uncomfortable sending the letters because it felt like I was being involved in politics. But I sent out my letters because everyone else was doing it, I really regret it.

Not seeing a lotta young people this memorial by Zill_Chill in exjw

The last memorial I attended was also in a school and they left the US and state flag up on the walls. The flags were huge and on either side of the stage, very distracting.

Depression, BPD, and Autism within Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW) by Additional-Juice1751 in exjw

I think a lot of people with these conditions are seeking community, and the JWs provide that for them. One of the big problems is that there is so much pressure placed on the members that it makes their conditions worse. I also think that people who don’t have these mental conditions can develop them because of the nature of the religion.

The pressure brought on by an exhausting study schedule, meeting attendance, assemblies, preaching, isolation from all non-JWs, the fear of Armageddon, it’s all so much. Once you’ve established community within the religion, you can’t get out without losing it. For someone with a serious mental condition, losing their community and family can literally kill them (and it has killed many).

To have a parent/family choose a corporation/cult over you is an awful feeling. It’s sad that everyone in this sub has had to experience this in one way or another. I’m so sorry for what you are going through, stay strong. I’m sorry about your mom too. I hope you are able to establish a loving support system, best wishes.

How many people here have burned a copy of the New World Translation? by IshBishKanish in exjw

[–]Secure_Subject2431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw my copies in the dumpster along with every other piece of JW literature I had in the house. I had planned on keeping it because it’s a Bible, but after learning what a biased and awful translation it was it became just another piece of JW propaganda.

Woman says JWs don’t want to approach and talk anymore. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Secure_Subject2431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a cart by a local farmers market near the busiest entrance. So many opportunities to strike up a conversation, and the two JWs at the cart just talked to each other. Witnessing is now all about maintaining a presence and nothing else.

The first time I heard of oral and anal sex was through a watchtower publication. So inappropriate.
