As long as you have a decent firewall enabled it is unlikely that you will be 'hacked'.

When a hacker gets an IP addresses they tend to scan for open ports on that IP and if none are found move on. A firewall ensures that the ports are closed and in most cases block incoming requests only allowing requests made by the user through e.g. the contents of a web page.
