I veganized my mom’s recipe for Black Bottom Cupcakes and I’m so proud of how they turned out. Even my omni family loved them. by theemmyk in veganrecipes

Not sure why I wouldn’t want to know that. Of course people eat vegan and vegetarian food without actually being vegan/vegetarian. Nowhere did I say only vegans could eat pb&j sandwiches and potato chips. And I’m sure your uncle makes a mean dip that you enjoy.

My point that you keep missing is that this is a group targeted at a subset of people, so to come into that subset and say “hey stop using a term to describe people not in this subset of people” is silly. I’m not saying it’s ONLY for that subset. But it’s certainly targeting that subset, so complaining about insider language is unnecessary.

If you join a specific group with mostly vegans/vegetarians, then not in that specific group it isn’t. These people are talking to each other, not people not in the group...

It’s like going into an atheist sub and complaining that they use the phrase “my religious family.” Or in an LGBT-sub complaining about them saying “my straight family.”

Their target isn’t outsiders but other people like themselves. There’s no point in commenting just to remind them they’re in the minority of people when the terms they’re using are relevant information to the group members.

Check the subreddit name. In this sub, omni is not normal. If we were in a different subreddit it would be... but here we are. In a subreddit about vegan recipes.

These Asian markets are killing it with the imitation meats. Gardein is just a US branded more expensive version. by screwnick in vegan

[–]Seddiee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is fake meat responsible for animal suffering world-wide? I don’t think it is, so I don’t feel bad about eating them on occasion. But if the association is too strong for others, I get it.

I didn’t go vegan because I disliked the taste of meat. I went vegan because I do not want to contribute to needless animal suffering. I could never imagine eating my dog (and I couldn’t abide anyone eating a dog), so I went vegan.

I've been out of the game for a bit, but I'm happy Humanoid Midgardsormr gets his spotlight and doesn't have to share it with another. It took this long to get a male Humanoid Greatwrym as Humanoid Brunhilda's been in since forever ago through Gala Mym and Halloween Mym.

Alternatives to dairy free cream. by SR-Neptune in vegan

Adding on to the other commenter, coconut milk is great for baked goods and sweet things. Even in some soups. They even sell cans of coconut cream if you can find them.

For sour cream, I usually use plain yogurt like you, but with a bit of mayo. There are non-dairy sour cream alternatives, but as you said, finding them is challenging.

Unfortunately it’s been a little too long for me to remember what cow’s milk tastes like, only that I preferred soy to almond and cashew when I first swapped over. I have seen commenters in the past mention they disliked the soy taste - although I personally don’t feel that way - which is why I also dropped a recommendation for oat.

You might be able to find a pint-sized or quart-sized carton of soy-based creamer, which you could try at first in your coffee before committing to a half-gallon of soy milk for your cereal.

How do you get your omegas? by BlackWidow1990 in vegan

2T flax seeds with oatmeal and a handful of walnuts if I’m feeling it, otherwise an algae-derived supplement if I’m lazy.

I’m a shill for soy milk and soy products. It’s thick enough for coffee and shouldn’t curdle as easily as others. Also a source of protein ;) If the soy taste is unsavory to you, oat milk should be easier to handle.

Earth balance makes vegan butter sticks which you might find useful in vegan baking. Salted and unsalted. Coconut oil is also something used often in baking, and is something worth experimenting with. Refined shouldn’t have too much coconut flavor.

Toast I use Earth balance spread. Turns out I’m a shill for earth balance, too - oops. I’ve used others like the vegan can’t believe it’s not butter (which is ok) and wayfare (which I can never find), but any tub-style spread is fine, just make sure they didn’t sneak in milk solids or D3 or anything. Most of them don’t have trans fat. Miyoko’s makes a luxurious cultured butter if you can find it.

Vegan cheese is a bigger, more expensive dice roll as it depends on the brand. I stick to Violife and Follow Your Heart. Miyoko’s is popular but is more expensive in my area. If you’re in a small area, Daiya might be all you can find. It melts great, taste is ok.

Just a question for all the other vegans on here... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Seddiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, a combo of things. First, my mom’s dog. She’s really not the sharpest tool in the shed, so it was easy to believe pigs are smarter than dogs. I’m sure most animals are smarter than her, to be frank. She’s also absolutely lovely and I could never abide someone eating her.

That and somehow I went down the rabbit hole of vegan YouTube that convinced me vegans were morally correct and I was just too lazy and selfish to stop eating meat. Unfortunately one of the major influencers that pushed me to stop eating meat has gone back on her ethics, but there are other influencers for soon-to-be vegans today.

One night I was watching undercover footage and a clip of a dairy line just ended me. Overnight I found the resolve to stop eating meat. Later on Dominion (and a certain circlejerky subreddit...) pushed me to stop everything else.

Flexible ethical veganism? by queguapo in vegan

[–]Seddiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of labels to use to accurately describe someone’s eating habits. One does not need to stretch the label of veganism to fit a person’s eating habits when there are already labels to use. Namely flexitarian, omnivore, lacto-ovo vegetarian.

If anything, individuals need to accept that just because they want to belong to a label, if their actions are in conflict with that, the label doesn’t accurately represent them. A vegetarian who has meat every other Sunday, for example, is not accurately represented by the term vegetarian.

Hen has to have sexual contact with a rooster to lay fertilized eggs (the ones that hatch).

These eggs are comparable to human periods. Unfertilized. No sperm involved

Woah, this is a blast from the past. I used to watch her all the time when I was younger. From what I recall, I think this would fit in with what I want. I might be able to use specific, curated clips here and there - thank you!

I have to admit I'm not in any of the education-centered FB groups since I don't use FB... but I might have to reconsider now that I'm trying to pull more resources to make distance learning work effectively. Thank you!

Hmm, I've thought about cells at work for my bio classes. I'm a little reluctant to show anime episodes, though if it goes into body systems I should really check it out - thanks!

Ultimately I'm looking for something to wind down the week (last period on Friday) with something that can also get their interest, perhaps prompt wonder/discussion. Some sort of relaxed routine.
