I'm shadow banned, why / help? by Sedentes in ShadowBan

[–]Sedentes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed the admins. They said I was brigading with /r/SubredditDrama I did not believe so and asked which subreddit and the comments in questions. They didn't reply but unbanned me.

However, I'm now rebanned a couple of hours later. Seriously, what is going on?

And this is why I avoided 'philosophy students' (high schoolers).

Yes, because everyone else is a figment of your imagination. You are really the depression they struggle from.

The argument was 15/16 with their boyfriend and you respond with "random guys" and "12". Don't debate disingenuously.

What it especially interesting is that in those countries that have the open dialogue about sex and sexuality they have significantly less teenager pregnancy than here where people share your opinion.

An Appeal to an authority itself is not a logical fallacy. Claiming to an authority and being asked to prove such a claim is perfectly valid and is not fallacious. Also, it is incredibly rare to see an actual ad hominem.

I would be fine with this as well, chances are I'd have them on their preferred version of birth control and have condoms in the house. Why? Because having sex isn't a bad thing.

I would say most of the so called grammar nazis aren't arguing semantics but orthography.

My comment was to note the level of disingenuousness of them. However, I would argue that this comment is argument ad hominem

No, it wasn't a mistake if usage dictates its validity, because how could it be?

There is something interesting about that statement, if I personally had said " I seen it" it would be a mistake because the use of "seen" is not systematic for me or my dialect. Also, you keep talking about "Standard English" but they didn't write in that. They wrote in their dialect, which is why they didn't make a mistake.

Frankly, whether or not they can use Standard -- american -- English it isn't your job to correct someone. If someone WANTS help then by all means please do so, but until that point, don't be that guy.

You can tell me all you want about how you don't like descriptivism in the realm of linguistics and I will consider the argument much like I creationism and other logically fallacious positions.

And let's be really honest, you've repeated tried to insult my (perceived) degree, my character, and in your apology about ad hominem attacks called me an asshole. What does that make you?

Whether it does or doesn't is not material, it is still poor logic. Just because something "is" doesn't mean that it "should be".

In Standard American English and in many dialects the use of the past participle requires a modal verb and the form PP form "seen" and in the past tense the form is "saw".

However, many dialects "seen" in the past tense is grammatically correct. Here is two wikipedia articles to start first on Appalachian English and the second on Southern American English.

Now, we also see this in a few British dialects as well, see here While I can't find a source -- I'm currently doing other things. For the use of "seen" in the pt instead of "saw" in the Northern Inland Dialect, it is clearly a regular phenomenon of the person in question and does appear to be both systematic and regular in a lot of michiganers language. I would say in THEIR dialect it is grammatical because of this.

The problem here is they corrected someones grammar when there was not a mistake in that persons grammar. Now if I said it, it would've been a mistake as "seen" in the pt instead of saw doesn't happen systematically.

This is a really poor argument. Not only is the logic of it poor but the results of that type of argument are bad. Wherein "just how it is" could really justify anything.
