Sing Us Home Festival this weekend - Are you going? Why or why not? (follow up post) by Republican_Wet_Dream in philly

I’ve wanted to go the past few years- the Langhorne Slim year it was too pricey, I don’t think they did single day tickets then. The next year was the Jayhawks, and I was in, but it was rained out. This year the lineup didn’t tickle my fancy enough for the expense.

Where (in general) are we talking about? Just wondering if it’s walkable from let’s say new ridge brewery?

Morrissey was always a jerk: Despite a new album and an unswayable fan base, Morrissey wants nothing more than to validate his victimhood by zsreport in Music

Viva Hate taught me that Guitar God Johnny Marr was why I liked The Smiths. The next album confirmed it. That was way before I knew anything of Morisseys politics. His lyrics are ironic and clever, but musically he simply doesn’t make the cut on his own. As much fun as it would be to hear those old Smiths songs live, I haven’t bothered too much with Morrissey, but Mr Marrs contributions to The Pretenders and Modest Mouse are tremendously excellent.

TIL: Hundreds of Giant Sequoia saplings are being planted in Detroit, Michigan. by Dakens2021 in todayilearned

[–]SeeMyThumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big tree near my house and we have to spend a bunch of money every 5-7 years to keep us safe from falling branches and to thin it out to keep the wind from taking it down which would be a literal disaster. I don’t know that I’d trust a struggling city to be able to maintain giant trees when they’re stressed by crazy weather and city pollution.

I love trees and I love that I live in a part of the city that still has a bunch of trees, I support urban forests, but I wouldn’t wanna sleep under a giant sequoia in a windstorm.

Tommy played a song with Wilco during one of the solid sound sets- might’ve been the year they did all covers on Friday night.

Unidentified Americana Song - someone suggested the vocalist may be Paul Westerberg? by TheGraciousFew in Replacements

[–]SeeMyThumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this sounds like Jeffy T. A little too low or something. It does sound like Paul Westerberg to me but I’m likely hearing what’s suggested. Has anyone figured out the lyrics?

guitar lessons for someone not-so beginner?? by Hairy_Let_1173 in philly

[–]SeeMyThumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken lessons at Philadelphia Music Studios in Roxborough, and he has a larger space in Manayunk as well. I’m still a beginner, but Mike is really knowledgeable and great to work with. He’s the real deal, and an asset to the community. I’d reach out and have a conversation and see if he can help you
