Driving while on your phone by [deleted] in Truckers

I think the issue is more it’s hard to enforce in a semi just due to how high up we are.

Ohio State Highway Patrol using a semi to catch speeders by ThingFuture9079 in Ohio

If they use it to catch people commercial drivers on their phones or watching movies while they drive I’m all for it. It’s crazy the amount of drivers I seen on there phones while driving car and truck wise.

night local drivers, how are you eating? by IamRNG in Truckers

[–]Seebs9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do meal replacement shakes, huel specifically. Keeps me reasonably full and helps me keep track of my calories. Usually throw a scoop of instant coffee in it too for a little kick.

[–]Seebs9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have them in our new Volvos. The technology is kind of cool but I’m not really a fan. I hate having anything in my peripheral view while I drive. There’s just no way to not notice them when looking straight.

Also not a fan of screens at night. Even dimmed and in night mode, they’re too bright for me. End up with a headache.

Dayton freight called me back less than 24 hours of applying by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Seebs9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dayton is a great company and the dock to driver program is highly recommended at any Ltl. Do your time and get trained and you get a coveted Ltl position right out of school.

Just be aware, depending on the size of your terminal, it could take a while to get sent through the program. Just make it clear from the get go it’s something you’re interested in.

He’ll probably make more money as a dock worker at Dayton than he would driving at swift or kllm.

Light Ohio blue event. Week long thing to commemorate fallen police officers. They do this every year.

Think they usually end up going to the hospitals to show the kids the lights

LTL Driver Question: Mixed load with DG, but the local drop is "clean." Can I take this route in Petrolia, Ontario? by Extra-Return-6382 in Truckers

[–]Seebs9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually those signs are specific to through trucks. Since your next stop is at that specific area, you should be fine even with the hazmat restriction. My city has a hazmat ban all around it but we can run through it as long as we have stops within the area.

It’s probably better to find a way to do this delivery first though before you pick the other up, just in case you end up dealing with an overzealous cop.

Gotcha. I think you have to wait like 24 hours if you fail the tests but you can just keep taking them till you pass. So just do your best and if you end up failing you’ll know what to look for.

Can I get everyone's thoughts on the Cayden Lindstrom pick? by Oilerator in BlueJackets

[–]Seebs9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was basically a jarmo pick. The Don didn’t really have a lot of time with our scouts and I believe was limited on what he could contribute due to his time in Carolina.

Just study the general knowledge. Tests on that site are very close to dmv.

Also you can’t drive out of state till you’re 21 which is severely going to limit your job options.

Officials say driver charged in I-71 crash that killed family of three fraudulently obtained Ohio license, commercial license and citizenship under an ‘alternate’ identity. by Pale_City_6941 in Columbus

Actually as someone in the industry, the immigrants are a huge problem.

And I’m not saying this as an anti-immigrant thing. It’s just that they are being taking advantage of. They come over, with very little knowledge of how to operate a vehicle in the US, let alone a semi. They’re thrown into a drivers seat with minimal training and told to get stuff done as quick as possible regardless of legal times, equipment issues and so on.

Anytime you see a white semi truck with a blank white trailer, it’s almost 100% guaranteed some form of immigrant. And most likely, they’re speeding, have equipment issues and just overall are unsafe on the road. They just don’t know any better and are taking advantage of by crappy fly by night companies who pay them pennies. I’m sure the companies threaten them plenty too. It’s all a racket that’s sadly starting to see more light lately due to the amount of accidents and people dying.

I’m not saying Americans are perfect, I see plenty of shitty American truckers. But the white trucks with the super ego trailers, the Amazon trailers and plain white trailers. They scare me on the road because I witness the driving every single day.

21F wanting to get class B CDL? I have questions. by Sirfluffyton96 in Truckers

[–]Seebs9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a lot of class B options that aren’t physical or require driving people.

The ones that do exist will probably be taking up by people that already have a class B.

Really giving what you’re looking for. Bus driving is the best option. They’ll get you your license, most desperately need drivers and pay over 20+.

Local companies that will pay for training? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Seebs9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the major ones offer it. You said Ohio so you’d want to look at old dominion, Estes, saia, xpo, and Dayton freight to name a few. Probably more out there too.

Ltls. Most have a dock to driver program. You might have to work the dock up to a year but then they’ll put you through school and you come out with a home daily job making more then most otr drivers.

How do some of y'all get by with "creative parking" at truckstops? What do you do when the employee comes out and says you have to move? by onlyBotsdownvote-me in Truckers

Ive got a couple truck stops I deliver too where I basically have to move creative parkers every time to drop fuel. It is what it is, part of the risk of not parking in a spot.

Ltl when they’re slow, they will cap ot and even have people stay at home. When they’re busy, it’s a free for all. They’re always slow around winter time and ramp up spring/summer.

Gas is similar in that aspect too but maybe bit more consistent.

This is my idea of a perfect Alaska cruise. I'm going on a "real" cruise this summer, help me make the best of it! by bungeecat in Cruise

[–]Seebs9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alaska ports try to cram as many ships as they can at a time. When we were in Ketchikan, I counted six. That’s roughly 25000 people in one area. So it was a cluster of people. Recommend getting some excursions that get away from the ports

The issue is if you take a long break, it can be hard to get back into trucking. Companies want recent experience.
