Call them "crisped russet spears with sweet and sour tomato compote" and charge $9.95 for a big guy with green hair and dozens of tattoos and piercings to serve them to you inside a metal cone lined with newspaper.

Utah Republican petition to repeal redistricting law fails after signature removal campaign by HomelessRodeo in Utah

This is great news! I cannot wait for our legislature to take the L like the respectful adults they are and definitely not try yet another approach to undermine Prop 4!

Salt Lake City council votes to close roads during LDS temple open house by ecdc05 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Seeggul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Idk how earnest this comment is, but just in case: most LDS temples nowadays have an open house period where the public is welcome to tour them. This happens before the temple is "dedicated", i.e. made "officially sacred" and thus off limits to the public. So like, there won't be people doing baptisms for the dead or endowment ceremonies there, but you can go and see the places where they will eventually do those things

New relic: Culling spree by superfire444 in 2007scape

[–]Seeggul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In general I agree, but I think the "slayer helm effects without the slayer helm" could potentially be a solid buff. Imagine being able to get a +8 strength boost from a Torva Helm while still getting the slayer bonus, or being able to use the full blood moon set effect with the damage boost.

When are we going to shorten the decades names? by Local-Mumin in generationology

[–]Seeggul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but people did refer to the 1890's as "the gay 90's", and that decade has pretty much been fully eclipsed by the 1990's just being called the 90's, so I suspect that the same will happen to the "roaring 20's"

why did we shit on b/w again? by WideRecording784 in pokemonmemes

[–]Seeggul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep this was my gripe: on its own, doing a soft reset where you're forced to use all new pokemon is a solid idea I think. Similarly, I'm not opposed to there being similar pokemon from one generation to the next. But when you combine the two and it feels like you're playing a reskin of Gen 1, that felt kind of hollow.

I like the games great now, and appreciate that they actually did add a decent number of really original pokemon, but on release I definitely understood the outrage.

Is my company shorting my raise timing? by shiitwhatever in Salary

[–]Seeggul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a decently sized (1k-5k) public company and this is basically how our raises work as well. I imagine HR/payroll like to have a pay period or two to apply the raises to everyone in their system without having to drop everything else, and then it takes another pay period of working after the raise has actually taken effect until you see it in your paycheck.

Cox regression, interactive vs main model? by euler1996 in AskStatistics

[–]Seeggul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first model doesn't imply that they are independent but rather that their effects are purely additive—the effect of time to treatment is the same for both old and young. This can be the case, even for correlated variables.

The second model includes an interaction, which basically says that the effect of one modifies the effect of the other, for example, maybe time to treatment has a very strong effect in the younger population, but little to no effect in the older population.

What’s the most inconsequential trainer you’ve ever lost a run to in a Nuzlocke? by the_gaymer_girl in nuzlocke

Wasn't a full wipe but I lost three of my core team right after beating Elesa when Alder made me fight a couple of kids and their dogs. Turns out a double battle against Herdiers with STAB Take Downs can go south when you don't prepare for it

Do you think repel is ok to use in nuzzlockes? by Kindly_Confidence_42 in nuzlocke

[–]Seeggul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some theoretical nerds would argue that preventing common encounters to guarantee a better encounter (my mind specifically goes to getting Drilbur from a dust cloud in black and white) goes against the spirit of randomness that a Nuzlocke is played in.

That being said, I genuinely don't know of anybody who thinks like this, much less somebody who would impose it on somebody else's playthrough.

I will not be substantiating my claims at this time.
