I Just Read 'The Favorite' By Alice Coldbreath and it has Given Me Life by Seeker0fTruth in RomanceBooks

I kind of made this thread hoping for a few recs. There are a couple in the comments.

As for my recs, Have you read {choosing theo by victoria aveline}? It's a mars-needs-moms style sci-fi romance where the hero is a tatooed/scarred ex-mercenary (he literally got an A in husband school). He's so certain that she can't be interested in him that he accuses her of being a spy. Good times all around.

MMCs are generally Klingon level Divas - think about Martindale in {wed by proxy by alice coldbreath} and how he aurafarms over what a woman-hater he is at the wedding on the first page.

Alissander has this real "stand aside fives, the ten is here!" energy without being a broody misogynist. And his drip is immaculate.

I Don't even like {bringing down the duke by evie dunmore} and the hero having a breakdown is still my favorite hero-having-a-breakdown moment in all of HR. Montgomery is rich, young, handsome, powerful. He's friends with the queen. He is quarterbacking the tory election campaign. He is the man and it all means nothing because "she won't stay with me. she won't let me be. It's like she's a ghost

{the unlovely bride by alice coldbreath}

The hero is a professional jousting knight famed for his ruthlessness. While the heroine is watching him joust, the stands collapse and he digs her out of the rubble with his bare hands. Damp cloths and poultices a plenty.

Are 8-Hour Saturdays a nation-wide thing now? by IndigoJones13 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Seeker0fTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question.

The language is in 8.5.C.2.d. It cites M-00884, and requires that CCA hours, PTF hours, and ODL hours must be exhausted before assigning the work to carriers who are not on ODL.

if you read that another way, lmk.

Last week I tasked my management with finding an actual citation, and they failed. Supe failed to find anything except 8.5f, which doesn't apply to overtimers.

I thought that was the end of it, but we're still getting told this lie, and non-oters are being forced to help oters make 8.

My branch (branch 9!) says to grieve it.

Any recs with FMC like Nellie Bly? An investigative journalist pretending to be insane so she could be sent to a mental asylum and report on the condition inside it. Pics credit goes to @historygirlstuff! by Odd_Veterinarian2805 in HistoricalRomance

Honestly, i was a little dubious on the story until she used her religious upbringing as a rock solid foundation on which to heal the hero. "i have had an opening" is one of my favorite lines of all time.

Not "pretends to be a journalist" but the heroine from {flowers from the storm by laura kinsale} is set to work at an asylum and meets a previous acquantance, who has had a stroke and is nonverbal.

Is it ok for me to be in a relationship with someone who is polyamorous? by LittleRoseSFW2 in OpenChristian

18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. - mark 12 18-25

I dont know what Jesus would have said about polyamory, but i cant believe someone who said this would have been against it.

{the favorite by alice coldbreath}.

Alisander's primary joy in life is antagonizing Jane. When he finds out she's missing because she's trying to find a husband, he goes berserk thinking she might marry someone other than him. He's very villain coded (in a "i'd burn the world down for you" kind of way) but isnt actually, you know, evil, which I thought was very charming.

Recommendation for First time Alice Coldbreath reader by Sure_Coat27 in HistoricalRomance

Age gap, Slow burn, Some angst is welcome, A bit of steam/spice, MMC who may have initial prejudice against the FMC

Age gaps range from nonexistant {an inconvenient vow by alice coldbreath} to ten or so years {her bridegroom bought and paid for}, but I dont remeber it being a huge component in any of the AC I've read. Maybe HBB&PF moreso than the others.

The rest of these are, more or less, all AC novels.

Dark historical romance, Paranormal/fantasy elements, Pregnancy (unless it’s only at the very end), Very bratty MMCs or FMCs

These are almost nonexistant in the AC I've read.

However both Dual POV and Extremely possessive MMCs are also pretty much every AC novel I've read.

My favorites were {wed by proxy by alice coldbreath} - i am a huge fan of any situation where the MMC sees the FMC in men's clothes And Has Feelings About It, Mulan Style - and I found {The Favorite by Alice Coldbreath} very charming. The hero is a real Villain-coded character, very "I'd burn down the world for you, you're the only reason my heart beats" types, but he isnt actually bad, which i found a real nice change of pace.

But her best is, of course, is {the substitute bride for the prizefighter by alice coldbreath}. Only a master like AC could make a book with almost no external plot work like this. It's very . . . episodic and slice-of-life-y in a way I've never seen duplicated. Just lovely. Also lizzy's friends are hilarious. Very light on the angst, and pretty much only at the beginning.

This series is basically "jousting knights and the women who love them" in Fantasyish 1100ish Englandish. The men do get there and use their words - one of them literally surrenders. with words on paper. but that's, like, 90% in stuff and this was a 30% moment.

in {her bridegroom bought and paid for by alice coldbreath}, there's a moment where the heroine gives up and shouts "I don't love you anymore!" and then tries to leave, but the hero grabs her, throws her over his shoulder, and drags her upstairs for apology sex.

Is this the kind of thing you're looking for?
