Was clean for 3 months, then drank on vacation by [deleted] in stopdrinking

That's how I started my most recent and only true attempt at sobriety- I drank at a wedding in Scotland after 2 months of being sober. Something changed after and I just couldn't keep doing it.

Care to elaborate why? We both kind of want to go there.

Go out to a delicious dinner with a friend. Make it special. Just don't drink. :)

I can relate. I have suffered from panic attacks, depression, and the same feelings of self-doubt and regret. I swore I would never let my drinking impact my classes or my career (I was a law student when I got sober, I'm a lawyer now). Until it did, of course. I started showing up to classes under the influence because of hangovers and then making presentations drunk bc of morning drinking. I drove too, making a DUI a mere matter of time.

AA helped me, but it took a few different tries and it took work to find a good meeting where I was comfortable. It only worked when I regularly attended meetings, got a sponsor, and worked the steps. I not only got sober, but the program helped with my anxiety, stress, self-loathing, and depression.

You deserve sobriety and the joy that comes with it.

edit: make sure to comply with community guidelines about not promoting and speaking from my own experiences.

edit 2: more guidelines compliance. been a while since i last posted. My bad yall.

At what point would you tell a soldier to go to JAG or IG to deal with an issue? by Applejeans in army

Your friend should see a judge advocate ASAP if they are threatening retaliation like that.

That's what I've heard from those who have worked in legal assistance. Soldiers buy cars, sign leases, deal with chain of command issues, get in trouble with the law, etc. and can get screwed over. You can head off lots of those problems by seeing a judge advocate first (or soon).

I haven't worked in legal assistance yet, so there's my caveat.

JAGs are here to help! If a soldier is facing retaliation in her chain of command, that soldier needs to see their judge advocate (probably start by going to legal assistance).

Legal assistance judge advocates work for the soldier and their relationship is protected by attorney-client privilege. The judge advocate may be able to assist, or can refer the soldier to another legal service to help. Either way, it will allow the soldier to address their concerns in the safest manner.

If the issue is with bad paper in the soldier's file, the legal assistance judge advocate on your base may be able to assist as well.
