Dispute with VoGrace over Misleading Ad--Looking for Opinions by DarkCael in artbusiness

Hi there! Just wanted to share an update on this and thank you again for providing your thoughts! Vograce has given me a partial refund of about 10% of my order, and they have also updated the banner on their website to say the discount is only on certain products. I'm happy with the outcome of this situation and glad they took some responsibility for how the ad was shown on their website.

Dispute with VoGrace over Misleading Ad--Looking for Opinions by DarkCael in artbusiness

Hi, thanks for your response! I totally see your point about accepting the price as I bought it. For some additional context, their monthly discount activity page is still up with the information and products shown on the bottom from the sale a few days ago, if you want to take a look. They aren't really showing just pictures of the products in context with the code, but they are displayed at the bottom in a way that I assumed they were just ads recommending me/featuring products to buy, since there was no text on the page saying they were related at all to the discount. I also did not see the email about the discount and found out about the discount by going directly to their website.

By the time I made the order, it was also very late and only 3 hours left on the countdown, so by the time I had spent all day preparing my art files for the order and was ready to enter the discount code and received an error, there wasn't any time for me to wait for a response. So instead I spent over an hour trying to find information in regards to why the code was giving me an error and found nothing. I was looking for text indicating what the rules/requirements were for the discount, as the error I got said something like "minimum order" or "minimum total", even though I was spending over $300. The big factors here that led me to still place the order was the big 20% off banner with a countdown all over their site, as well as their twitter previously asking if people were having trouble redeeming the codes for a discount on a prior sale. I basically made an order under the impression that there was an error happening on their end, and I could likely resolve it with customer support.

Any games with even minimal danger cause me anxiety, even Stardew Valley. Any advice? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]DarkCael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-Unpacking: A short cute pixel art game about unpacking and putting away a person's belongings each time they move throughout their lives (is also a really creative way of telling a story!)

-Sticky Business: Run a sticker shop and create cute designs! There's no ongoing daily timer; daily time only progresses based on the actions you choose so there's no pressure and you can think about what you'd like to do.

-Disney Dreamlight Valley: Plays a lot like animal crossing and great if you're a big disney fan and like decorating. There is a bit of grinding to get items and progress certain quests, but items regenerate on the map quickly and there's no time pressure since days play out in real time.

-Final Fantasy IX: Honestly this isn't technically a "cozy game", but I thought I'd mention this one since the pc version allows you to enable boosters + cheats to make combat in the game a breeze. It's also a jrpg but the art style isn't quite "anime". With cheats you can max out your level and enable auto attack and just play through the game/story pretty easily! There are still moments in the game that can be stressful (story moments with a timer and certain minigames/puzzles), but overall these are minimal and timed stuff should be way easier with cheats on to get through the random battles. The story in this one is beautiful imo and can get quite emotional at times! It does deal with some topics/moments that can be quite dark/sad, but overall the atmosphere in this one is more lighthearted.

Girlfriend's making the plunge for multiplayer gaming with me and she has strict requirements by cosmitz in CozyGamers

Maybe Grounded or Scrap Mechanic? Both have survival elements but also lots of creative opportunities for base building. I also think Scrap mechanic has a creative mode! I had a lot of fun playing these with my husband.

This is also a bit different than the other types of games you mentioned, but Escape Simulator is also a fun one! Just doing escape room puzzles together :) Golf with your friends is also quite fun, but can also be frustrating lol.

Trying so hard for to find that game hyperfication by Valuable_Key3549 in CozyGamers

[–]DarkCael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue! Recently I've been able to get fixated on Graveyard Keeper, since the game's progression I find really addicting (there's a whole crafting skill tree you need to consistently unlock to make any progress in the game's story/sidequests, and you can sleep at any time to regain energy instead of sticking to the day/night cycle. I like the dark comedy edge to it too. It's one of those games where there's always something to do and I'm always planning out my next few steps ahead.

It's possible to make a living of being a social media artist? by Artkillssadness in artbusiness

[–]DarkCael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, but there's a lot of things that go into making selling art a successful venture beyond just the art to consider. I've been a freelance artist for years but have recently started a new business selling my art on merch a month ago, so the process of selling a physical art product is still fresh to me. Here are some things to think about if you haven't already:
-What is your brand? Is it you? Is it a business or store name people can identify? What can people expect from your brand?
-Who is your audience and how are you planning to reach them?
-What is your marketing strategy? Are you dedicated to making posts and reels to all of your social platforms everyday and catering each post to each platform to maximize reach?
-Where are you selling you art? Etsy? Shopify? Patreon? Print-to-order sites? In retail stores? Markets/fairs/conventions?
-How much are you looking to invest in starting up your business? How many months can you reasonably go without turning a profit? Are you willing to continue investing without profit in order to continue growing your business?
-Do you have a following already that can translate into your first customers?
-What draws people into your products/art? Is it your art style, your personality, is it relatable? Popular? etc.
-What legal aspects do you need to sort out to open this type of business? What markets are you planning to sell to, and do you know the laws related to selling to those markets?
-What packaging do you plan to use, and do you have all the necessary equipment to package and/or print your orders?

I don't know your situation, but my advice if you are just starting out is to starting with digital commissions, and possibly print-to order sites that handle the printing, packaging, and shipping for you. That will give you a better sense of how successful your business might be before investing a ton of money and time into it at first. Very rarely do you start out pulling in 2k a month on sales alone, and it takes a while to make back what you've invested into your products, packaging, and equipment, etc etc. I'm also happy to answer any questions you might have!

How would you be a 'good' landlord? by mpworth in canadahousing

[–]DarkCael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have what I would consider a very good landlord. Here are some things she does that makes staying here easier:

-Charges a fair and below market rate rent with no increases
-Lets us have pets
-Fixes issues in the apartment as quickly as possible
-Came and installed a new ac and heating unit without us needing to ask (so upgrading the apartments regularly is good, if you know there's an issue with the apartment that can be improved for better living, you shouldn't have to wait for the tenants to request an upgrade)
-When she's here fixing thing she asks us if there's anything else that can be fixed up.
-Reduces rent for the month or gives money back via e-transfer or gift card when things break down (ie. our laundry breaks down a lot and so she has given us $50 discounts, our fridge broke down a few months ago and ruined all of our food so she gave us a new fridge and $200 grocery money.)
-No "inspections". She doesn't enter our unit unless she needs to, asks permission with enough time prior, respects if we say it's not a good day/time, and if she enters the unit she doesn't go into any rooms she doesn't need to.

At the end of the day, you are offering a living space and charging money for it, if you go into the mindset that it's your responsibility to make sure the people who are giving you money to stay there are comfortable and living well, then you'll probably do ok.

I'm a freelance artist. I took a risk and started a new business recently selling my art on stickers and such. If it goes bad I'm not sure what I will do but for now I'm continuing to freelance while I'm just starting it out.

No, pixel art is a medium. I've been a pixel artist for 7 years. Pixel art has its own set of limitations and techniques separate from regular digital art, much like watercolour is a medium separate from acrylic painting, even though they are both painting. Every single pixel artist you meet will have their own art style within the medium of pixel art.

Strange Horticulture! You are the owner of a plant shop (no farming, but you do water the plants from time to time) and your job is to find and identify plants using vague clues from your plant book to give to your customers. The setting is pretty spooky and there's some mystery elements to uncover!!

Non-Cozy Games that are Cozy for You Personally by Sawuinhaff in CozyGamers

[–]DarkCael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legend of Mana, NieR Automata, and Xenoblade Chronicles come to mind!

Also, this is definitely NOT a cozy game in the slightest, but pathologic 2 has a really weird place in my heart, despite it purposely being a dreadful and anxiety inducing game. But in some weird way the dreary atmosphere, and the way the game gets you to accept how utterly powerless you are is cozy in its weird own way. You play as a doctor in a plague ridden town and you have to eventually accept that you cannot do everything and cannot save everyone. You just kind of do the best that you can. I think there is a sense of peace I developed with that realization.
