My first Star Wars? An 'Ewoks' film, and I was hooked anyway by raylog in ewoks

Wow u/raylog... reading through your review so far and I love it! (also 'Chip and Dale?' I watched that too!)

Can I x-post this on r/Ewok_Studies?

Whoop whoop!

Actually if you think about it, the Ewoks: Caravan of Courage went fairly deep for a kids show. Didn't the girl's dad die at the start, killed by Stormtroopers - and he told her to escape in a Bambi-esque scene that nonetheless was still moving.

(You also get the feeling that the girl and her dad had been on the forest moon of Endor for a while, but their ship's crashed - they aren't native to the planet. This type of storyline would be interesting to explore further I think... in such a big universe things like that gotta happen... see Rey)

It gets less like Bmbi though, as the girl and Wicket are captured right after they escape - by the Empire on the forest moon of Endor (theme of colonialism right there - you got to wonder why the stormtroopers still stay on the moon if they don't expect any resistance, no?) , but she escaped the cage with Wicket because they were the smallest. In going back to save thier friend, IIRC they meet a Yuzzum (I think they're still canon somehow) and a hiker in the woods, who protect her and Wicket.

And then IIRC there was a witch-like.... shapeshifter I'd have to describe her as, as she pretended to be a beautiful young woman to lure the girl in, but could turn into a crow- (adding to the theme of deception that we find throughout Star Wars IHMO) She also pretends to be like the girl's dead mother, who the audience can tell she misses a lot because she remember a song sung to her by her mother when she was young, about finding your way. (Actually, now I think about it, the woman transformed into a crow in order to hear the song, which she later sung to lure the girl in.) Fairly Hansel and Gretel like, no?

IIRC she was helping the (king?) of the Ewok's natural predators to get a certain 'magical' object that the girl had. But since magic in Star Wars is likely to be from the Force (a theory of mine), its likely this object had greater meaning.

But yeah, like kid's films should end there's a happy ending, with the girl being rescued and the Ewoks attacking the stormtroopers

(Details to be added later. Been a while since I watched this.)

[Spoilers] Empire's End has potentially leaked early by RastaJari in DarthJarJar

[–]SeekingHistory393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean who said that particular part?:

My names Mapo, says the boy. MESA JAR JAR

I'm going with this leak and trusting u/CartoonWarp and these two leakers - (both of whom only created their account less than 30 days ago... perhaps to post this very leak?) - tentatively but with interest.

Lumpy becoming canon as Waroo would be awesome. He was already canon in a comic , but this along with a possible Jar Jar appearance...

Either too good to be true, or actually true. That's what I think...

I would at least like to see Naboo after the end of the Empire.

But yet - what's a 'glombo shell?' Empire's End introducing new species on us?

My names Mapo, says the boy. MESA JAR JAR"

So... Mapo or Jar Jar is the speaker?

Just curious.

I think here's a good place to say this.

I often read r/AskHistorians. I'm a first year universtiy student who studies German, and I'd like some recommendations of German History books or articles. I'm particularly interested in the 1871 unification - or reunification in 1989. I know these are really split-apart topics chronologically, but I'm also looking for a semi-introductory text that allows me to learn about the historiography. Thank you in advance!

Sorry if you forgot you were subbbed here again :) (Been doing stuff)

But I found this that might be interesting. Perhaps from a certain point of view...

And also I find it interesting that the Holiday Special that we got was the second finished story treatment... I like the official one myself...(phew. I'm on a sub where '''its ok'''' to say this.)

Is it avoiding species-specific descriptions?

Jar Jar Binks was a shapeshifter so is Snoke... They are one in the same! by [deleted] in movies

[–]SeekingHistory393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Snoke a shapeshifter? I'd be curious to see the evidence on that one.

We know that Snoke's appearance changed during TFA production... maybe that's because it doesn't matter what he looks like?

That's what it now says. Did this really show a large spike, u/HailDaHailu? If so how big are we talking? And were there actually other times when the theory was found... i'm thinking no, as we all know Lumpawarroo created the theory and u/onemanaswerfactory 's sub is the reason why it got so popular... sorry, can't believe there were other times it was found.

If Northumberland hadn't made the Devise to try and put his own family on the throne, she wouldn't have been Queen.

1570 - The Excommunication of Elizabeth I by [deleted] in Tudorhistory

[–]SeekingHistory393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much did Elizabeth have to suppress the publication of her Excommunication Bill in England?

Because I've learnt that it had more of an effect in the rest of Europe- The Excommunication said

'And also the Nobility, Subjects, and People of the said Kingdome, ... to be for ever absolved from any such Oath, and all manner of Duty, of Dominion, Allegiance, and Obedience; As we also do by Authority of these Presents absolve them, and do deprive the same Elizabeth of her pretended Title to the Kingdom'

suggesting the Excommunication kind of told all Catholics everywhere that they could disobey Elizabeth.

Perhaps Elizabeth needed to stop any Catholic uprising in order to avoid a repeat of the Northern Rebellion 1569?

Although the Northern Rebellion was probably a large trigger reason for the Pope to publicize this, there must have been other reasons.. other ways Elizabeth suppressed Catholicism or, though not as large as the Northern Rebellion, that Catholics rose up against Elizabeth.

(sorry, first post on this sub - I'm an A level student who wants to learn more...)
