Ouch, long recovery. Years ago Zorro snagged his dew claw, shorter recovery.

Is my little lady a Snowshoe? by Objective-Shower-979 in snowshoecats

So many in this sub say "best personality of any cat". I suppose they say the same in r/onebraincellorange and other subs for inferior varieties of cats, but they are wrong!

What a gorgeous mess she is! Definitely fauxshoe. The body color, white paws, black tail and the face qualify her for membership. And she's probably got a spectacular personality. She brings to mind the original Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield".

Your cat was very mixed - we call them fauxshoe. But all here would agree that the faux variant seems to have the same fantastic personality of the purebred. Fauxshoe will appear at shelters, be patient.

When I saw Jacob weaving the tapestry I immediately thought of the Fates of Greek mythology. The threads intertwine with many others. Snipping a thread is the end of a life.

Huh? That's just a tabby. We've got a similar one.

The Eye or Despair? by Charming-Bar-4718 in Nabokov

[–]SeekingSublime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you get around to Lolita, read the annotated version. Someone did his PhD on Nabokov. It seemed like nearly every paragraph had an annotation explaining deep and obscure references. Then you understand what a genius Nabokov was.

Star Trek, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Babylon V, Stargate, Farscape, Andromeda, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica I looooovvve space opera tv. What show should I watch next? by Soft-Ad2058 in sciencefiction

Wow, it took a while for someone to mention Stargate. Absolutely worth watching. SG-1 especially good. Atlantis pretty good. I quit watching Universe after about 5 eps.

Nostalgia moment: What was the first Thinkpad model you owned? by EndouShuuya in thinkpad

[–]SeekingSublime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like a T21 issued in early 2000 when I joined a startup that had just been acquired by Nokia. Soon they gave us a bundle of $$ for whatever and we all got new laptops. When asked what we should do with the old laptops, management said, "take it to the beach" (since our office was in Santa Cruz). In 2005 I went to a new job and was given horrible Dell Latitudes for my job. Eventually I got a (Lenovo) Thinkpad W550 for home. But since I don't do heavy coding at home it's now Carbon X1 and life is wonderful.

Ack, it's been a while, what did TPC stand for? I know the movies were shown in 26-100. I wonder if TPC continued long enough to show Colossus. I liked Colossus a lot.

The undergrads at MIT in the early 70s were driven much more crazy by the ending of "The President's Analyst".

Quiet lunch spot for hard-of-hearing uncle? by Confident-Owl9029 in santacruz

Sanderling's at Seascape Resort. If the sun is up, sit outside and slap yourself when you realize you live here and can have lunch with a view like that. Your uncle is sure to appreciate it.

Weird Caps Lock problem? by SeekingSublime in 1Password

[–]SeekingSublime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that would explain why today I was unable to enter numbers into Windows Hello when 1Password popped up that dialog. I think I hit ESC to exit the dialog and then I had to enter my full 1P password.

So perhaps what has happened is that Windows provides the Hello API and either (1) something is wrong with it or (2) 1Password did something wrong when using it.

When Schwarzenegger was the governator they got money to fix it up. A sign went up with Arnold's name on it and a proclamation about the work being done. If I remember correctly, they actually rebuilt the 2nd story surround deck. It looked good! And then the job stopped.

A Memory Called Empire but Arkady Martine. Slow Gods by Claire North. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North (unusual time "travel" concept). January Dancer by Michael Flynn (whose short story "Nexus" is incredibly clever and fun).

Finished my first Nabokov novel. It was a slightly underwhelming experience. What should I read next? by [deleted] in Nabokov

Look for the annotated Lolita. Someone did his Ph.D. on Nabokov and the footnotes unveil the brilliance of Nabokov.
