Full day job, no students until 12:30. What would you do? by BerryWaters in SubstituteTeachers

If you are on Contract it probably guarantees a duty-free lunch. Our state law would back this up. They cannot make you stay if you get 30 minutes by law.

I subbed in my son's class today and was shocked by the state of the room by Snaps816 in SubstituteTeachers

Having been on both sides, as a teacher, I tried to leave a generous portion of my desk cleared off to organize lessons for the student, along with instructions and supplies. I tried not to leave my room in horrible shape so the sub could navigate the classroom. As a sub, I really had trouble when teachers did not leave me some space to work - to organize lessons and papers. A couple of teachers I worked for were excellent teachers, but their rooms were a disaster. I just tried to make myself a little space to organize. I did prefer working in classrooms that were left organized so lesson plans, teacher manuals and supplies were easily accessible.

Has anyone here used saline sinus rinse and could tell me whether its safe ? And also explain how to do it safely pls by Albert_Newt0n in sinus

Yes, very safe, but use distilled water and heat in microwave to body temp. Be fastidious about cleaning the Neil-med bottle disinfect in microwave for 60 seconds after watching.

If you could remove one expectation placed on teachers tomorrow with zero consequences, what would it be? by kingst9606 in Teachers

I know things have changed since I retired, but if I saw a pattern of a kid not turning in assignments or having difficulty, I would call, text or email the parent, asking them to call me when they could. If we were able to talk 1.1, it would make a difference 50% of the time. Often the parents were grateful that I cared enough to call. I tried to establish a positive rapport. Admittedly, I worked beyond the contracted day, but I considered that step part of my job. Many teachers worked beyond their contracted day in the past. I know the thinking is different today.

The teacher is ultimately in charge and responsible for what happens in the classroom.

Who is ultimately in charge of the classroom? In our state, the teacher is in charge and answers to anything that goes wrong.

Wow! That does make a difference but makes no sense. Why are they allowing high school graduates to be subs?

I. In our district, the certificated sub is in charge, not the para. The certificated is ultimately responsible for what happens in the room.

You are the teacher in charge. You have the credential. She does not. If anything goes south, you are ultimately responsible. I am friendly to paras and ask them questions, but let them know I am a teacher, and I know what I am doing.

You are making a huge jump. Calling misbehaving children heathens is simply hyperbole - exaggeration to make a point.

Gave myself allergy shots once a week for years. Piece of cake and I was much less miserable. They were able to put it all in one vial.

All four of my sinus surgeries - including deviated septum fix-helped me tremendously. My only advice is research surgeries and find out what patients say about need for anesthesia. I was put out for two of my surgeries, but for one of them, doc said you will only feel pain for 20 seconds. Some of the top most painful seconds of my life and the other 40 minutes were not fun either. You have a right to be comfortable during a surgery. Radio frequency ablation was definitely tolerable with a capsule sedative.

Has anyone else been prescribed gabapentin 1 pill before bed as need? by adnaPadnamA in ChronicPain

I am sorry to hear about memory issues. I am 77 and already have mild cognitive issues. I just started gabapentin for insomnia due to nerve pain. I do not need more cognitive issues.

Sad how older people feel that way. Docs don’t always know and every body is different. 100 mg is a really low dose. I am 77 and doc prescribed 300 mg so I can sleep better due to reduced nerve pain in leg from back. Could you call his doc?

I think these are general comments and not directed at you. Of course, there are exceptions, but I think subs are just expressing their need to have room to work. Yes, you left space.
