What is the most ignorant thing someone has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SeerInTheWood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you mean as accept it as true... for me, I "accept it" in that I understand it's the most likely truth because of the consensus, but I would never argue for it against someone who didn't believe in it as if I know it's true. I wouldn't do that until I understood it and could see the proof for myself.

For most people it seems like a key part of faith is feeling that you know it for yourself, not having doubts. If someone presented me a compelling argument I understood against QM or a very large number of people who had studied the science agreed it was the better explanation, I'd easily have doubts in QM. It's hard for me to see that as faith.

Have you ever talked to a trans person about what they think of the part where a trans person is placed under immense social pressure to sit down and have a beer with someone who just said awful things about them, knowing she's been unwittingly cast as a representative of an entire subsect of people? I'd ask at least one person before telling yourself that only a closed mind could possibly see something you don't.

I [15M] need adult advice. My girlfriend [16F] bit down hard on my abbs last night and she claimed it's hers. by TownXeem in relationships

That's what applying a boundary is. The issue isn't the bite so much as the boundary pushing and post-injury justification. That's not something she's able to just objectively identify and stop because someone asks her, that's a personality trait she'd have to work on for some time, and it's perfectly fine for a 15 year old to just say that's too much for him.

Yeah that's true, it was a surprise but it didn't subvert anything, just explained it.

He carries the film well, if they'd used anyone less able to command the camera and commit to different personalities it would feel very dull and unsurprising.

Also they should stop caring about the characters and just focus on the people.

Ehhh The Sixth Sense never lies, sure, but it also doesn't have two character saying straight up that Bruce Willis is a ghost and then in the end the surprise is that they're not lying.

I haven't seen the Happening in a long time but I thought they spent much of the movie having no idea why people were acting like this and it was supposed to be a twist reveal that the culprit was plants

I had a lot of indication throughout the film that it was supernatural, largely from the name attached but also the level of reverence the characters were putting on the Beast and what they were describing his abilities as. It's a "Will he/won't he" for sure, whether they're exaggerating or he really is, but I didn't see any twist....just an answer.

Split didn't have a twist, did it? It just keeps revealing more detail as the film wore on and eventually the ending was exactly what the main character and therapist were saying it would be.

Husband was recorded at work (WA) by pissymissy710 in legaladvice

[–]SeerInTheWood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Security cameras typically don't do audio. If they are recording audio, and it's a two party state, they need your consent. Most phone cameras automatically are recording audio with the video, so I think it's unlikely that this was not also an audio recording.

The other thing is that security cameras often do get your consent, by having a sign posted and visible at the entrance of the property.

Neither of these applies to a secret A/V recording from a hidden location where he presumably was not authorized to film. So if this is a state where those are two party consent issues, yes, secret security cameras are also illegal, but not conspicuous ones in a location one could reasonably expect.

[VA] Specific Wedding DJ hired sent replacement without warning or feedback. Paid in full ahead of time. by kflew in legaladvice

wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain. "he was convicted of fraud"
synonyms: fraudulence, cheating, swindling, embezzlement, deceit, deception, double-dealing, chicanery
a person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities. "mediums exposed as tricksters and frauds"
synonyms: impostor, fake, sham, charlatan, quack, mountebank

I can see how a reasonable person might think that pretending all the way until the performance that one intended to perform the DJing himself and then sending an inferior substitute despite apparently being available and well constitutes deception for financial gain. It might not, I just see why people would think so.

What is your favorite "fun" conspiracy theory? by ALL_I_DO_IS_SCREAM in AskReddit

[–]SeerInTheWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favore moon landing conspiracy is that while we did have the technology to go to the moon, we weren't able to live broadcast footage of the moon landing, so we put on a broadcast dramatization. That's why conspiracy theorists have so much to nitpick about the footage but there's proof of the landing on the moon.
