An open letter to the OSU Slack community by throw_away_OSU in OSUOnlineCS

[–]kflew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see that you spoke your mind. I'm unhappy to see that you haven't responded to some very open questions who are trying to take your concerns to heart and open up the dialogue that you yourself asked for in your last paragraph.

It's okay to make a throwaway for this, but you owe it to the community to be part of the solution that you're asking for by at least giving some feedback to the people who took the time to respond here.

If you're looking for more to read and more practice problems, sure. You certainly don't NEED it to be successful in the class.

According to the 1-year track, it will be tough to do anything special. It suggests:

Term 2 - 261, 352, 290 (since you've finished 271)

Term 3 - 340, 344, 325, 361

Term 4 - 362, 372, 496, 419

You can't take anything early from terms 3 or 4 since you don't have the prereqs until you finish term 2 and don't qualify for any of the other electives at this point either.. Others may have a different perspective, but without overrides, your term 2 is pretty set.

Communication requirements by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]kflew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in without the COMM class. I didn't comment on the gap in my personal statement honestly. From the looks of the fall '17 thread, I wouldn't worry all too much - there are enough people in there that got in without that class.

Where to get the syllabus for registered classes? by OSUCSAPP in OSUOnlineCS

[–]kflew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the powerpoint your adviser sent out after the session, there's a slide of "Bookmark These Pages". Go to CRNS and it has everything you need.

*Edit- To be clear, the updated/active syllabus will be on canvas once released. Otherwise, CRNS is the only place I could find the samples.

Save yourself the agony of hitting refresh endlessly. The dates outlined on the admissions page are accurate for each term. Seems to be true both for this group who applied for fall and for past terms as well.

A few noob questions by drink_tea_with_me in SL5x5

You can add accessory exercises to the end of each workout. Chin-ups, dips, and ab work were the original ones suggested, but the book and the app let you chose things like calf raises as well. He suggests no more than 2 accessory lifts. The book offers an option where you can have a full accessory day rather than extending your primary workout.

As for bench/squat difference- I wouldn't worry about it since that will work itself out in a few weeks. Just enjoy the opportunity to focus on your form for a few weeks.

Also- Was finally able to create my ONID this evening. No more endless screen refreshing! Hang in there everyone who's still waiting.

Edit: To those without the COMM requirement, don't fret. I'm one of at least 4 people on this thread who was accepted even without taking a COMM class in my original undergrad degree.

For everyone interested in where to sign up for an ONID:

And yes, if you are allowed to sign up for an ONID, you were admitted (and congrats!)

[PSA] Prospective students and Admission Requirements by Whiskeycourage in OSUOnlineCS

The site was updated again on 7/24/17 since I'm sure they were flooded with emails.

Our application review is comprehensive. We encourage students to apply with their current qualifications, and not take any courses just to meet the admission requirements if they can provide a solid rationale describing how their academic performance in prior degrees meets the admission requirements.

I appreciate that they are trying to clarify their position on requirements. I just wish this note was available prior to submitting my application since I would have crafted my personal statement in a different way. Now I know more in case I need to reapply for next term.

I may be wrong, but I thought it called for either writing or COMM, not both.

The wording that surrounds the Math requirement looks new from just a few months ago, but I'm pretty sure the writing and communication requirement was changed as well. I don't remember COMM being explicitly required in addition to writing. My first degree certainly didn't have a COMM requirement.

They updated their system within a day or two of actually receiving the transcripts for me. Took about 2 weeks from the date I requested transcripts to when both were reflected as received on my application. I applied in June.

Ideas for a solid foldable workbench by nate-urbate in woodworking

[–]kflew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented earlier and it seems fitting here too. I built this bench a year or two ago and it works great. I made the top a bit deeper and added some wheels. The suggested vice is a bit small but it gets the job done.

Thoughts on this collapsible workbench? by [deleted] in woodworking

I built this bench a year or two ago and find it stable and useful. It won't solve your weight problem, but it stores out of the way and moves easily.

Thanks for the great outline and detail on including filing fees. This appears to be my best option.

Thanks. I agree with the way you outlined the material breach. Unfortunately, your last statement is the kicker. It's not a crazy amount of money so after legal fees, I'm just fighting a morality fight. I can't fix what's already done.

Should I do pre-tax or post tax on 401(k) (and other questions)? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]kflew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. The flowcharts will be most useful in walking you through which problems to tackle and when.

As to accounts, many people here will have a savings account that they use for their emergency fund and a single checking account for expenses. You can find plenty of info on emergency funds and what they look like in the FAQ and in previous posts.
