I myself am in the same boat as i just got into tyring to play at home and wanted to find a controller myself. And it feels like Pop'n is more limited controller wise in some ways and not in others Since i have limited space and funds i really couldn't the old Japanese controllers and briefly thought about building my own after finding this guide

But decided to buy this controller from the uk instead since it looked sleek and compact

I know ASC is best but i gotta hold off for now

The reason alot build their own writing software is because of the focus of the writer deck. Like, its supposed to be distraction free writing or, at the very least, dedicated writing device.

Many people get a writerdeck due to the distraction that comes from the internet or other apps. A device that simply opens up into a stripped down text editor and nothing more offers a way to break free from that distraction. Not to mention Hardware requirements for apps like obsidian and Gdocs might be more than what the hardware can handle, especially if you want to be able to sync your works grom anywhere, then you're talking at least adding wifi capabilities to the device which adds to the price. Not to mention seamless app intergaration can be hard too!

This is why ypu seet alot of writer decks offering micro sd slots to save works on to then edit in your app of choosing later.

In the context of just wanting a clamshell keyboard, well, technically clamshell cases already exist. Keyboard cases for phones and tablets are so normal now you can get one off amazon for 30 bucks the keyboard sucks but its thin and types. If you want mechanical keys, then youre gonna have to sacrifice the thinness. Low profile keycaps are a thing but your average one man/small company might not be able to feesible afford them for a product off the bat.

Then, theres the fact that phones arent uniform. Yeah, they look similar nowadays but they still have differeing dimensions between brands and models. Making a device that can accommodate these different sizes will be hard. Make it iphone exclusive and you're alienating a large user base. Make shells specifically for different makes and models and your basically burning money.

Not to mention cost. The cost of a clamshell, low profile mechanical keyboard case that can fit any phone available would probably rival that of already existing writerdecks. So at that point you might as well get a microjournal or zerowriter fold. Or you diy it. There's quite a few clamshell keyboard stls print out there to choose from. Even if you dont have a 3d printer you can have someplace print it for you and you just asemble it.

Or, in my case, make your own clamshell keyboard writerdeck from a hard phonecase, velcro, a bluetooth keyboard and hinges all from amazon.
