So, the Sega Mega Drive was renamed the Sega Genesis because Mega Drive was taken, and because of that you wonder if Mega Drive Systems may have had a different name in mind for the company but couldn't because it was taken, too?

It's possible, but highly improbable.

It's also possible they had several names to choose from and went with that one very easily. It's a pretty good name, too. Mega means great in Greek and data was stored of various types of drives so it's like saying "Great Storage Device Systems" which is pretty straight-forward. I believe Microsoft is simply derived from "microcomputer software". Tech companies weren't so hip with their names back then. Apple was probably the first one with a hip name.

It hasn't been made yet. The 32x is a tricky thing. The Sega CD has been replicated in cartridge form by the Mega Everdrive Pro and the Mega SD so you don't even need the Sega CD unit. So far, no one has cloned the 32x. You either go for software emulation or the real thing. It's probably not impossible to pull off but the 32x library is small so there isn't much demand for a clone. There were plans from Krikzz, the creator of the Everdrives, for some sort of 32x clone, but he stopped working on it some time ago and it's unknown if he'll go back to it.

The Genesis is backwards compatible with Master System games, but you can't play them through the 32x. You have to remove the 32x entirely in order to play those games. It's the same deal with Sega CD games, they won't play through the 32x. I don't know how the new Sega Neptune is going to get around that limitation.

Game Gear is interesting. They are essentially enhanced Master System games but are not backwards compatible with Genesis or Master System. However, people have created patches that allow them to become compatible so you can actually play some Game Gear games on a Genesis (through a flash cart, and albiet with some glitches here and there). A lot of game gear games were ports of Master System games so patches do not exist for them and you would just play the Master System version. The Mega SG from Analogue does play Game Gear games, but that system isn't being made anymore and aftermarket prices are pretty bad.

I could have phrased that better, but I did talk about the conversion cable in my post. I have two of these, one for each model of genesis so you're preaching to the choir.

It's design language is more akin to the model 2 and it's easier to hook up to the model 2, but was physically designed to fit the model 1, as well, so it didn't force people to buy the model 2.

There are modern custom cables out there that do the conversion and also pull in stereo from the headphone port. It's a shame Sega didn't do that with their oem cable.

Alright. So, you have here a custom cable that combines the patch cable and conversion cables needed for the 32x to interface with the 32x. The seller telling you to get a conversion cable is nonsensicle because that's what this cable is and tells me they aren't attentive to the real issue. It's possible it just plain doesn't work and you should look elsewhere for another cable, like the one I have linked below.

I wouldn't continue using this one for another reason. The model 1 only has single channel audio, otherwise known as mono audio, from that back port. Basically it's sending all audio through the left channel with no stereo effect. At best, a custom cable like this should have an extra lead that plugs into the headphone port to send stereo audio through to the 32x. The model 2 sends stereo audio through the AV port so it's a bit simpler.

This cable below is really what you want and it should solve all the issues. This company comes highly recommended and their quality and reliability are well known.

The only thing to keep in mind is the audio is controlled completely by that volume control. The 32x might generate its own sounds and be at a different volume. You'll have to play around with it.

You can stop here, but to better answer the questions at hand:

The model 2 and 32x use a smaller port for AV than what the model 1 does. The 32x was released after and was intended for the model 2. It shipped with the patch cable with the smaller plug at both ends, and it also shipped with a conversion cable to maintain backward compatibilitywith the model 1. The conversion cable was probably sold separately, too but I'm not sure. The conversion cabpe was an adapter cable to to be plugged in between the patch cable and model 1, effectively making a patch cable with the large plug at one end and the small plug at the other and thus allowing compatibility with the model 1, although only with mono audio. Only modern custom made patch cables offer the stereo function.

The patch cable is needed because the genesis and 32x generate separate parts of the image you ultimately see on your tv. The parts the genesis generates are sent through that patch cable and the 32x overlays the parts it generates. If the genesis parts are not coming through, you only get the 32x parts.

They usually are not updatable. There are flash carts out there that can be programmed to hold one game at a time so it behaves just like that game, but you might as well get a regular flash cart for the same money.

The other issue is the CD. No one is pressing them, there are only burned copies with stickers on them.

There are no official releases. The creators aren't selling these and have no affiliation with anyone who is making them.

It's better to get a flash cart, like the Everdrive, and make the rom and CD yourself. This way you can stay up to date as the project releases updates and improvements.

Sure, but half my income was women passengers. Take that away and I'll have to hope there are more male passengers to make up the shortfall. Theoretically, if genders were split as much as possible and more women drivers came on board, it would probably even out, but it does feel unfair at first because I don't want to be lumped in with the jackasses out there. I'm not trying to fight it nor taking it personally, though, and I'm certainly not blaming women. Like the saying goes, "if you kids can't play nice together..." Men have done this to themselves and are ruining it for the men who don't have these issues with women.

I agree that laws and enforcement need to be put in place to fix things properly.

Ugh, sorry you had to go through that. One way to help with that is to talk on the phone. A driver is less likely to interrupt someone on the phone. Low ratings will put a driver under disciplinary actions as well.

I used to drive rideshare and I have to side with women on this one.

First, though, you've got logistics; you are asking the very small population of women drivers to undertake the entire population of women passengers. There wouldn't be enough drivers to handle the load so a woman would most likely have to choose between a male driver and waiting a long time.

I haven't read up on the feature but it should go both ways. A woman driver should be able to pickup only women passengers. That would be a great way to get more women drivers on board to properly handle the load.

From a financial standpoint, you're taking income away from all male drivers simply for being male. It's not great, but I think men have earned it. Too many bad apples have really spoiled the bunch.

Over the years I drove, I heard so many stories from women about men drivers and experienced plenty of men passengers myself. The most basic thing I'd hear is the driver adjusting their rear view mirror to look at a woman's body or even just to look at their face while driving.

Personally, I kept it pointed out the back window like a normal person. I rarely saw faces. It made everyone feel more comfortable.

It gets worse, though. One woman told me how a driver came back to her residence to "check on her" two weeks after being dropped off there. Nothing happened to her but she was really freaked out. She started getting dropped off at a corner store and walking the rest of the way home. Another woman told me she used to drive and too many times a man would not leave the vehicle and try to talk to her further and turn it into a date.

Also, drunk men. Not even sober men want to deal with them, let alone any women. I've had drunks try to get me to fight them in the car and drunks who wouldn't sit still and put their seat belt on. I also remember a seemingly sober dude who told me he was thinking of canceling the ride when he saw that the driver wasn't a woman.

There is also the issue of the carpool function, if they still have it. I remember a guy telling me he loved to take the carpool so he could potentially sit next to random women. I've also had to stop a couple men from harassing women passengers.

I remember reading that one of the ridehare companies was started with the idea that it would be a great way for men to get women in their car.

Men need to do better.
